I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)
User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works
Still waiting for mine to ship from the last $15 deal. Just checked and Woot says SEPT 13. Hasn't even shipped yet.

It's not a deal if you never receive it.

Isn't blinking red an indication of it not being connected? Try the app, it nicely visualizes the topology and offers a couple extra goodies, like the channel smart selection routine.
Yes that's what blinking red is supposed to mean, but it works fine. Strangely 2 of them are purple one is red. The red one seems to think it's a master node even though I didn't configure it that way. In any case they all work great!

Are you able to pull that off on the 5Ghz low band radio? I'm getting consistently worse speed and range on the low band compared to the high band on this Linksys router. In the past, I remember there being some US regulation that made it so the low bands were lower power than the high bands...I believe that was the case with the popular Asus RT-AC68U. Wonder if that's still true...
I have not tried separating the band SSIDs for this kind of testing. I thought I would mess with it more when openwrt or ddwrt was nice and stable, but since they are working well as APs I might never mess with it.

I wonder if it is possible to flash the router with DD-WRT or OpenWRT or even back to stock firmware using the flash processes for one of the open source firmware. Could end up with a free fully functional router after a little bit of work. I got mine yesterday and wouldn't complain at all if I got it for free because of that. I mainly got it for tinkering with because $15 is too cheap to resist. I'm happy with my AIMesh from my ASUS AX routers so I didn't see any need to get 2 or 3 to replace my current setup.

Yes I've thought of that. I haven't looked into the process but there's no way to upload/update the firmware from the web interface so I would have to look into a backdoor or hardwire way to do it

I've got a 2 level townhouse that's 1300sf. We don't game, but we use Yttv for tv streaming, 2 phones, and 2 work laptops. Should I put one on each floor or will one do the trick? My current archer is crapping out, so this timing is good. The $25 is damn near nothing, so if I'll notice a difference I'll go for it.
Thanks!
One should be fine for that. I'd recommend starting there, and if for some reason you are not satisfied you can add a second.

Could anyone help with this: I have OpenWRT and Luci installed, working great. But the third radio (radio2) doesn't seem to be working. Radio2 shows "Bitrate: ? Mbit/s", and for the associated network, where others show something like "-66/-113 dBm", this shows "disabled". Do you know what the issue might be? If something is broken?

Can someone screenshot the location of the CA button. I'm not seeing it using the Linksys mobile app or when I'm on the router webpage. I know it is me, but could use some assistance.

Its not on the app, its on the webpage. And its not really a button, there is just wording at the bottom of the page, and one of the words is like CATS and if you hover over CA....

The CA menu is not available in the app or mobile browser. You need to use a desktop browser (or set your mobile browser to desktop mode).

if it is similar to MX4200, would it be possible to load the MX4200 firmware onto it? or is there a link to original firmware with Fortninet (obviously it will not not) but atlease the firmware could be utilized with all features.

Can these be used in a wired mesh configuration? I have the ability to run Ethernet to the location of the second node.

If possible, which port should the Ethernet be connected to on the hub/mesh node?

Openwrt allows mesh with other Qualcomm based routers "if" mesh is enabled by the driver. So you would still need a rare Qualcomm based asus router running openwrt.
Fantastic answer I couldn't find, much appreciated. Alas, I have the AX86U as my main station which is Broadcom so tough cookies on that one. The Linksys would be a downgrade for sure, but still good as a backup.

Honestly im just using these as mesh APs, not for the main router. So you could still use your $$$ AX86u, and use these for your wifi network. And they can use a wired backhaul as well

Quick question for anyone running as mesh with two nodes (one parent one child)

In a wifi scan how many 5ghz access points do you show in wifi man or similar app? I show three total under my wifi5 ssid.

Interesting. So you basically plug one into your main existing router, set it to AP mode as a base (with a different SSID, I assume), and then attached nodes to it wirelessly or wired?
