I have to disagree with you there. I have 64 devices connected to four LN1301s in a router + mesh network and performance has been decent and stable for nearly a week now. I have 16 IP cameras streaming 1080p video 24/7 as well. (Half of them via Ethernet bridging with the mesh nodes)

Mind you that I only have 100Mbps Spectrum internet but I do stream/direct play 4k videos from a Plex media server to several Amazon Firestick 4k devices without issue. Overall IMO you would be hard pressed to find such relatively decent hardware for so cheap; especially a Mesh network.

It wasn't all smooth at first mind you. I kept getting disconnects; especially with the streaming IP cameras. But I discovered by disabling Express Forwarding all my streaming issues went away. (CA>Connectivity>Administration>Express Forwarding)

I'm guessing that Cisco's/Linksys' proprietary Express Forwarding routing protocol was causing havoc with the IP cams streaming capabilities. Also, disabling Node Steering seemed to make things more stable as well; mesh nodes no longer disconnect from the router when Node Steering is disabled. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)

User feedback across two years indicates better performance with all three off. Express forwarding seems to negatively affect streaming. Node steering interferws with Google Home and Apple Homekit. Client steering slows connection down if you have more than one router.

Of course, user experience can vary so feel free to experiment. if the routers are giving you problems, try turning these features off and see if it works

When I cycled power on my node it initially showed a wired backhaul then went to wireless again. That was with the wired line connected to the WAN on the node to a LAN on the main. I then powered off the node and moved the WAN connection to a LAN (the one with the yellow) then powered it back on, and now the backhaul seems to stay on wired. So are child nodes supposed to be using a LAN port for the wired backhaul? I would have thought it would be the WAN port.

Sometimes too much info is dangerous. But hopefully this will be used by people who know how to use the info. I found this tidbit from a thread on another Linksys router but it works on the MX4300 as well.
Instead of just connecting to the IP of your router to get the admin gui, append the undocumented /sysinfo.cgi for a boatload of info. I have found the info in the bh_report and show_devices sections near the bottom particularly helpful.

I set this up with one as my main router and another I configured as a child and stuck that in my office. Even though the routers have different names, my desktop only sees the main router, and doesn't see the same of the child node. How do I figure out if my desktop is connected to the main router vs the child node?

My best guess is bonding. Anyone who wants to try it out can attempt via the webui. You have to unhide it first with your browser's developer tools. I'm not in front of a desktop to grab an example. I have used it to enable DFS and tested a few different features.
Anyone want to set up a forum somewhere to pin important discoveries with stock?

If you don't mind, could you explain how you found AP/bridge mode? I didn't see anythning like that in the firmware menu. Thanks!

Why do people ask for things that they can easily find themselves reading back just a few pages? It seems odd to ask someone to take their time/effort (to reply) when they are obviously too lazy to spend their own time looking.

It is found under "connecivity/Internet settings/ip4/edit/connection type" when accessing GUI from PC browser. It is set to DHCP by default since the most common use is to connect internet port to your ISP modem. When using as an AP, I first set a static IP for the node. Make sure everything works fine even after a reboot. Then set to bridge mode.

They should still have more. Just need to wait for Sohen employees, the refurbishing company Linksys used to get rid of these, to finish the next batch. They have to take each router out of the original packaging, sand off the "secured by Fortinet" logo under the Linksys logo, flash the router with the consumer firmware, put new stickers on the bottom of the router, and then place it in the generic box.

I went in and configured the mesh on both routers, so now they both think they are masters and will not connect. Any way to revert one back to a child and not a master? They connect up back hauled but not wirelessly. Any help would be appreciated.
