Recommend a metal filter...I have the og 1st gen aeropress and switched to metal when the taste of the paper effected my coffee..by far the best choice I ever made in terms of improved taste.
Before Aeropress was bought out by a private equity firm, the regular price of the brewer was $30 and included the filter holder and funnel. Now they're charging $10 extra for each. A filter pack used to be $6.
The price used to reflect that this is a cheap, plastic brewer. Now it's more expensive than higher quality Japanese glass or ceramic brewers.

i think i have heard that you are supposed to rinse the paper filter before using it and that metal lets more oils in which you might not want.

I created woot account before Amazon bought it. Now, if I login using my woot account, I don't get free shipping. But if I login using Amazon prime, I get free shipping. Both logins log me to the same account, but it needs to be Prime account for some reason.

Same deal with me.
I would rather have a glass ad metal product and not plastic.
(Some people claim because plastic is lighter????!!!!)

I'd imagine the pressure created and having the user pressing down very hard on a glass version is a lawsuit waiting to happen
Great product but like others have said the nickel and diming is not something I will ever support again. I have an extra unit stashed away from when the price was reasonable and will not replace that when the time comes, if ever as I love the pour over these days. Not sure which filters ppl are speaking to but I use the ones linked below before. They went up $3 since my last purchase over a year ago so not the worst "inflation" depending how many per day you use I guess! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1

You have to exert a lot of force. Most people use ceramic mugs. Glass or metal on ceramic with lots of force = No Bueno, not to mention glass on its own with a lot of force could also lead to a major accident.
Aeropress has been BPA free for over a decade now.

That leaves more oils. The oils are quite bad for you and usually taste bad. Sometimes the oils can be tasty but still bad for you. Just know what you are getting into. Google for more info.

Oils and sediment. I hate coffee sediment.
