That's correct.
Seems like the responses change every time a new deal like this posts.
You can extend a 365 sub up to 5 years. So you can stack, as long as you don't go beyond 5 years

Reminder: If you have a child in college or a high school student that is taking dual credit classes with a college, you more than likely already have access to office 365 (use the college email address to sign in).

If I have Office 365 for family, and then I buy this 12 month subscription, what happens? Will it extend my family account for 12 more months or will it convert my family account to a single personal account?

Your Microsoft account can have only one active Microsoft 365 subscription. If you order more than one subscription at Microsoft365.com/renew and associate multiple subscriptions with the same Microsoft account, you will extend the amount of time for the subscription associated with that Microsoft account, not increase the number of installations or the amount of online storage you get. You can renew and extend the duration of a Microsoft 365 subscription for a maximum of 5 years. For more information, see "Frequently asked questions" on Microsoft365.com/renew.

Gmail is garbage. Didn't your parents teach you when you were a kid that nothing in life is free or that you get what you pay for?

I think most people, myself included, get this because it includes 1 TB of cloud storage.

There's probably also another group that get it for work compatibility reasons.

If someone doesn't fall into one of those two categories, then yes, free versions make sense.
Yeah I agree, the storage is good. But if all you need to share is office files you're probably not needing anything that big, and after 15 months you're looking for another deal or paying the high cost MS charges for this package.

I would never use a work machine for personal stuff, you never know what your IT department's retention policy is and you also don't wanna get laid off and lose all your personal files in an instant.

Personally I was fortunate enough to get 7 family subs for $20/ea a few years ago and am still using that but if I wasn't I would totally get this deal.

We don't use it just for backing up documents--we also backup pictures, videos, music, etc. If you know of a cheaper alternative for cloud storage feel free to share, but deals like this work out to around $3.25-3.50 a month of 1 TB storage for up to 6 people (family plan, each person gets their own 1 TB of storage). You can also stack the codes to get up to 5 years, and just keep a Slickdeals alert to top it off as needed.

Yeah I can see that for storage, and if you're just doing it for that then the office is free. This deal is for a single user though and not a family plan. I was too focused on office with my reply.

I haven't looked for cloud storage in a while since I have a home server, but $3mth for 2TB is the cheapest I've found so far blomp.com
