I guess with the paid version you get more online storage, Teams, Access and Publisher. Anything other benefit for a typical user?

Yeah I can see that for storage, and if you're just doing it for that then the office is free. This deal is for a single user though and not a family plan. I was too focused on office with my reply.
12 months of Personal can convert to 9 months of Family for people that already have Family $3.33/mo is a great deal for family. I create dummy accounts and share the folder with my primary account so I have 6TB storage. $3.33 / mo is dirt cheap for that much storage. Compare it to Google One storage prices, which does not have a 1tb plan but is $10 per mo for 2TB - though they may have deals which I am unware of .

While I do not use it primarily for Office , MS Office and Google/Open Office are not the same. I would prefer MS Office and I consider it a bonus.

Correct, this is to be expected.

I bought 2 15-month keys, but when I try to redeem them on my family subscription, Microsoft tells me that they will be pro-rated based on a 12-month personal key. I'm now back to support to check if I was sent the correct keys or if personal keys used on family accounts will always fall back to 12 months and 9 months prorated.

15 months doesn't get you extra, still 9

Fine, but then I could have bought the 12-month keys for a lower price for the same result. But they are checking....

Exactly. I never buy 15 months. This has been discussed in previous threads

OK, something new I learned now. Worst case I overpaid for 18 months.
