I love the price per gig but also these drives a little noisy/clicky but no problem with anything else.
I bought four of these drives and installed them in the 4-bay Synology NAS I bought on sale from B&H. Everything works flawlessly - I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

2 Questions for you experts out there:

1. How much improvement in speed will I see coming from DS212J? It's horribly slow and anything I do in web GUI takes literally minutes.

2. Will I be able to just pull the drives out of my DS212J (currently in JBODS config) and stick it in this DS224+ will the data be retained?

This is really good advice. One tip I'd add for folks like me with limited IT knowledge is to do your research when you're pretty sure you're ready to buy and then set a tight deadline for completing the purchase. This way you'll avoid my fate, which is having to start the research process from scratch over and over again bc I've forgotten what all the acronyms mean, getting overwhelmed; and then just throwing up my hands and consigning future me to the frustrations associated with my current configuration 🙄😂

It's just to tell people it doesn't come with hard drive disks, because some do include them out of the box.

Diskless means hard disks are not included when shipped. You need to put your own disks in.

I've been having a DS224+ for about 6 months now and i absolutely love it. I have two Synology 8TB drives in it. I threw in a 8gb stick of ram and now has 10gb total which is kind of overkill since i pretty much only use it for transcoding at the moment. I plan on doing using docker and other apps soon.
