Still overheats. It is fine if you are moving (bike, outside of motorcycle or car, etc) or have good airflow (windy day, ac vent inside car, etc). You can use a lower resolution setting 4k30 runs fine in most use cases up to an hour. Other brands have the similar issue so it is a packaging and processing heat issue with the small form factor. The Hero 13 has a heat sink on the front now but it doesn't seem (early days) to help that much.

the overheating issue will never be corrected, it's simply a baseline design assumption of action cams at this point. They are meant for being moved through the air/through water/etc and require the cooling it provides, if you do not do this then you will be limited to 30 minutes or whatever until it overheats. The camera sensor and electronics just put out too much heat to dissipate in a small, waterproof, impact-resistant form factor like that.

From what i've read online it doesnt seem very hopeful that this method will work out even if the price check in store shows up less. Apparently costco.com and the warehouse are different business entities and they hardly ever cross price adjust but we'll see
