There is no "best" stud finder out there, because different stud finders excel at different things. This one is easy to use, its display is intuitive, and (most importantly) it gives more consistent/reliable results than any other stud finder I have used.

But it has two big limitations: it can't detect hot wires, and it can't distinguish between metal pipes and studs.

So I use this as my primary stud finder, but verify its findings with another stud finder to look for hot wires and pipes before doing anything.
$19.97 at my local Costco.
Here's a review of some of the differences for this model (m210) vs the lower end models such as AC live wire detection/etc . . . it also demonstrates how Franklin Stud Finders work differently from the usual products from other vendors:

we must worry about costcos reviews as they are inhouse and real. homedepot reviews are collected from all sites and are manipulated so they can sell.

Agreed--my TX store said closest store with stock was Louisiana. I think they have been clearing these out at the warehouses . . . I just posted this because it's easy online purchase without having to hunt at the warehouses and still half-the-price of getting from HomeDepot/similar--if it breaks/is no good, Costco's return policy is excellent . . .

How much better is the 13 sensor version than the 7 and 9 sensor versions?

Walmart's Hart has knock-offs of those for $19 and $28:

Besides the detection of electrical, the higher number of sensors just lets you see with more detail where the edges of the stud (or obstruction) lie. You can still figure that out with the 7 sensor model by moving the finder left/right over the edge area to see where the lights come on.

These are great btw. I know the differences because I lost one, bought the 13 sensor version to replace it, then of course found the original.

If you need a stud-finder, project farm on YouTube did a review of various ones and the results.

Did you call or you went to your local store? I think the ones that are being cleared since last year are the yellow ones.
