I have experience servicing these Yamahas and they are excellent bikes with a few minor issues. First and foremost, they run Yamaha motors, which means you're going to need a Yamaha dealer if something goes awry there. I have not yet run into any motor issues in my experience with these, but note that Yamaha dealers are few and far between in some areas.
Another issue is that geometry on these is a little funky. The road and hybrid bikes are built off the same frame that is sized small, medium, and large, but really fits more like medium, medium-large, and real big. Measure out your current ride and verify that it'll fit you before you hit 'order.' I haven't had luck getting people much smaller than 5' 4" on the small size.
The final issue is that they run their own proprietary rear derailleur hanger on many of the frames, which makes a basic repair (rear der hanger replacement) a bit frustrating, as you have to track down the right part from, again, a Yamaha dealer. If you grab one of these bikes, order a couple of spare hangers at the same time, if possible, and make your future repair needs that much easier.
Otherwise, like I said above, bonkers deals.
Regarding the drop bar vs flat bar for the road bikes, looking at the geometry tables, I notice the stack height is pretty low, at least in the largest size. That would make using the drops rather uncomfortable for me. Also, the longer width of the flat bar will provide more stability compared to narrow drop bars, which is something to really consider for a bike that can sustain 28 mph. Just something to think about.

Which of these are best deals for 95% road (winter light-snow included) and occasional off-road use? don't need one but these seem to be quality bikes. Are all bikes in this promo mid-drive?
I've built gas and E-bikes for over ten years. While this is a great value, it may not be for a large segment of the market.
I agree middy vs hub is apples and oranges. After thousand of miles on both, middys are superior overall but not in all situations. Depends on your application. But I will say, when you achieve greater experience, you will never buy this 36v w/ 500w'er.
Edit: People seriously cant read. My words won't change here no matter how many thumbs down. That motor is weak ass - especially for $2k. Bike is a good bike. No one is arguing that. It's Yamaha. It's good - yadayada.
The point is that a mid drive 36v 250w won't compete with any 56v 1000w or higher hub drive. The torque may be decent, but 20mph top speed? You want at least 30-40, and I expect 50 for $2000 with bafang 1000w mid drive or 1000w dual hub motor. Those are demon electric vehicles or motorcycles, and this is a weak ass dedicated high-end MTB that targets the 0.01% market of the population. You will regret buying this rather than a fast machine if you belong to the majority ebike consumers. This is for riding on a trail and give yourself a small break kind of professional MTB usage.
Don't ever think Yamaha electric motors are any good. If you know anything about electric motor, Chinese is the best, on not only quality but also longitivity and so on. I trust China's electric motors more than Japanese gas engines-so you know how reliable they are. Every single electric motor you bought will last 100x longer than any gas or diesel engine you ever had. They are totally different so don't use your experience on Yamaha gas motors to claim why Japanese electric motors are good. They are decent but that's it. A Yamaha electric motor is no better than any no name Chinese electric motor. I won't consider Yamaha is superior than any named Chinese motor, like Bafang, and in fact Yamaha is not even as good as Bafang if you know ebikes.
Update: The bike has been at this price for almost a month. Their dealers have actively advertised these, but there are still a lot of stock. In Texas they have almost 200 in one dealer. It is a good deal - but not that kind of "should buy one even if dont need it" deal. If you are in the market for a MTB, look into this. If you are not in the market for MTB, like you need an ebike or dont need a bike at all, don't recommend it.
In general the most powerful motor you woukd want is 750w
Nothing over that is legal to ride anywhere public in almost all locations in USA.
You can not drive over 28mph pedaling or 20mph throttle only in public again at least almost all locations in the united states.
No roads, no sidewalks no bike lanes no trails other than perhaps dirtbike only trails.

I haven't gone to the mountains in awhile and I'm out of shape. I'll need to do some riding before I can get to the fun stuff.
A lot of trails don't even allow ebikes.
I'm really thinking about buying something like this to help climbing and at least help me get out there. A crutch if you will.
This bike is up to 80 Nm. My 60 Nm emtb is plenty capable to get me over the steepest trails. But you need to pedal, this is a class 1. Mountain biking is a pedalling sport, not a mode of transportation.
I have a 750W hub drive ebike that struggles to go up hills. The torque output is not comparable. Those things are toys compared to e-mtbs as far as capability outside of flat ground speed with a thumb throttle. I also have a 1000W mid drive kit that I put on a bike for fun, that thing has more power than I know what to do with and is overkill for anyone who wants to stay in legal limits of just riding around unless they want to haul cargo. But even with all those numbers out there, it still isn't the point. Top speed is not the metric you look for when mountain biking, it's torque.
The 250W nominal is still plenty of peak power output but it doesn't take into account a mid drive's ability to use the drive train with aggressive gear ratios. Your $2k 750W ebike from Rad, Lectric, Aventon, or whatever has drivetrains made to ride on the flat ground and slight inclines. They have awful torque output and are designed to get people from A to B with minimal effort; not navigate over rough terrain off roads.
People trying to correlate the motor's wattage to their weight and going up hills to say this bike is weak have no argument. There is no argument to be made. Most of the most powerful class 1 emtbs are not any more powerful than this because they don't need to be. For a majority of people who are looking for a bike to ride on the roads, this post and product is not for you and you likely don't know anything about mountain bikes so your opinions are misleading.
Edit: Never mind, my order went though. I'll see how this compares to my Aventon Adventure 2. If it is better, I'll never doubt Slick Deals ever again.
