I do the same but different country server as I couldn't do it with India, Argentina and Turkey (top 3 cheapest I believe). However I still ended up paying only $2.50 a month.

Just their annual price bump.

They have been announcing price bump in October, which takes effect in December for 1st world countries, Jan for 2nd, and Feb for 3rd world countries these last couple of years.

Seems like some are confusing YouTube TV and YouTube Premium. The former is a streaming service that largely features live TV broadcasts. The latter is simply removing ads from YouTube (videos) and YouTube Music (streaming audio).

Yeah the same thing happened to me! Basically, log out of YouTube, turn on your VPN and use a server from the country you want to subscribe in, log back on to Youtube (will bring up that country's version of their site), setup YouTube Premium (choose individual or family plan) and it will show the cost in that country's currency, re-subscribe, log out of your VPN and you can go back to using YouTube US. I just re-upped mine in Israel and the family plan is costing me about $12/mo.
