3rd party refurbished is a trap and they don't guarantee genuine parts

This is one of the cheapest M-series Macs you can get for this price, and definitely the best macbook you can get for this price.
The next closest seems to be an M2 mac mini with no screen 256GB, 8GB for $599.

If you need a modern mac platform and can live with 8GB Ram and 256GB SSD and don't need super high compute power, this is a good deal.

If any of the above are non-negotiable for you, wait for a better deal. They are coming.

Not much you can replace but battery or screen.

Great deal. These M1 MacBook airs still hold up great for everyday tasks, basic photo and even light video projects (not professional video work, etc).

I'm tempted to buy one and don't even need it.

And don't be scared away by the "8GB of ram isn't enough" people. It's fine and runs great unless you have 7-8 applications actively running or doing heavy memory tasks.

Close some of your applications, people.

Having an m1 mac mini, this is completely false.
Fast bootup but everything else is on par with an 11th gen i5 with the same ram and ssd.
A mac mini is not the same as a macbook. A laptop goes thru more use and abuse than a desktop computer genius.

M2 and up has better chips and camera but if you don't mind the old wedge shape design this is a pretty good price

As a comparison of old v. old, my m1 macbook air is substantially faster than my i5-6600k desktop with 32 gb ram, ssd, and a GTX970 video card.

That said, I traded in an older macbook air for an M1 + $97 at best buy, so I am happy with that purchase.

It's good enough for browsing , watching and everything else casual- loved the battery life - using it since it came out - no issue at all at same configuration.

Got my wife one last year. Works fantastic for her use case (mainly web browsing whether it's for work, Netflix, or leisure), which fits the profile for I'd say at least 75% of people out there.

M1, pretty mediocre performance. Never the less its a mac
Still using my M1 MacBook Air because it's still too fast to consider upgrading. Battery life is also still way too good to justify replacing and I'm still getting a couple days on a charge (90% after 107 total cycles). I torture the damn thing with hundreds of Chrome tabs and dozens of windows, but it keeps on chugging along. You can definitely feel the performance drop after having that much stuff open, but it does an extremely admirable job of handling the load (WAY better than the Windows machine with 32GB RAM I use for work. That thing runs out and starts chugging with roughly the same amount of tabs)

I think my comment didnt sound the way I intended for it to be. I am comparing price for performance when compared to later models. I use a M1 on mac Mini and M2 on a macbook pro and I see a lot of difference.
