Or you could get a credit card that pays 2% cashback on everything and has no annual fee and be free to shop only sales at SC.

edit: here's an article that could help choosing 2% cashback cc

I have both the Fidelity 2% card and the Wells. Downside with fidelity is you can only get cashback when you go over $25. With wells you can apply your cashback to your account every month. As a result I have not been using the fidelity in recent months.

Hoping for some kind of promo that they tend to have a few times a year.

Just get the CitiBank Double Cash CC. 2% back on everything, everywhere, every time. No limits or minimums. Had mine since 2018 and I'm now at about $1000 CB. Discover Card for 5% back on rotating categories (currently on Walmart/Walmart.com and Grocery Stores).

The two are not mutually exclusive. Or you could get the Sam's Club card and get 5% cashback in store and 3% for online purchases.

Before the $50 minimum amount shipping change, giving you more ways to avoid going inside the store without getting another company involved.
It's been a while since I checked, but I think Costco had nothing to comparable to Sam's free shipping without additional costs & the same for curbside pickup(Instacart?).
Most stuff ships for free from Costco in my experience, but some stuff has a $10 online fee added. Also the prices online are sometimes just higher than the store. They also don't have nearly the selection available online that Sam's has.

On the other hand, they almost always have really good clothing promos online that can make stuff ridiculously cheap.

Wait, they did?! I wasn't aware of this....
I'm pretty sure produce is a location dependent, at least partially.

I have plus membership until Oct 2024. Every item that I purchased that was under $50 was free to ship for me in the past. I went and added a $13 item and it wants to charge me 8 bucks for shipping. Can Sam's change the terms of my membership when I still have a month left? My last few items purchased last month all shipped free. I have initiated a cancel when my account renews….. but they can't change my terms while it is still active? !! Can they?
Just tell them you want a refund. They will give you the whole annual fee back.

I really don't understand why Costco don't update the check out system like Scan & Go at Sam's. What's the point of having self check outs but still have a person there to scan your stuff for you. And now, they're installing membership scanner at the entrance in many places now. I know memberships is where they make their money, but all of these unnecessary things they added are just a waste of time, money and not helping customers at all.
Sam's (Walmart) owns the patent on mobile app Scan and Go. Costco is waiting to see how the Sam's vs Bjs warehouse lawsuit turns out before they decide.

Using the app is what makes Sams Club worthwhile, you just scan your items and walk out. It doesn't really matter how many people are in the store as long as I don't have to wait in line. I wish Walmart would allow that with their plus membership, but you still have to go to a checkout when you use theirs, which defeats the purpose.
Yeah I give them bad surveys all the time for making me wait in the peasant line just to scan a QR code...

Plus membership does not ship for FREE less than $50 items anymore.
(I never order over $50)
Any good reasons to continue paying for Plus?
Wouldn't regular membership be just fine then?
Plus now has free same day grocery delivery for orders $50+ so you can get perishables and stuff delivered straight from the store.

No they don't. At least not anymore. Their fine print also says that prices for pickup or delivery may be different (read higher) than in store. They have had higher prices for shipping on many items in the past and my guess is they are extending this practice to pickup and deliver now that they offer those services for free. I agree it's annoying with Costco to not see on their website what the oil store price would be, but Sam's isn't much better in that regard anymore.
The latest Costco mobile app--at least on iOS--has a warehouse inventory search on the Warehouse tab, and it lists the pay-in-store prices of the items.
