Does anyone else find it really frustrating that these manufacturers bag sizes are without the wheel and handle whereas the airlines measure these bags with wheel and handle??? ( don't want to pay extra for one or two inches too big for carry-on!)
... Even the 18-in bag mentioned above is 21.5-in with wheel and handle! A lot of the Asian airlines limit my parents to 20-inches including wheel and handle

For the past 10 years, I have had a 21" TravelPro that is 23" with the wheels and handle and have never had an issue nor has an airline ever tried to measure it.

Do you guys think the swissgear 18inch bag will qualify for most domestic flights as a carryon with no penalties?

I bought the Swissgear carryon. I had the same one which accidently burned/melted by the heater. I have been looking for it at the right price for a long time.

A 30" bag will quickly be overweight for a domestic flight and not hard to exceed international weight either. We push it with 24" domestic and 27" international. Goodness knows what more my wife could stuff into this large of luggage.

Don't try to fly a budget airline. They'll hit you up for $100 at the gate if you try to walk on with an oversize carry-on. Nothing says "Spirit" or "Frontier" like watching gate agents give zero effs what you've been allowed to do in the past.

Yea but if you are travelli with a family and get cheap 20$ Frontier flight pay for 1 checkin at 60 70$ you still come our ahead for say 4 or 5 6 pax and vs flying the big 3 UA , AA. DL or SW..that's the thing.

It makes sense for occasional leasure travel domestic..bur yes they r super stingy on their bag policy for carry on both Fromtier and Spirit.

I could never ever do soft-side luggage for airplane travel, especially for checked luggage. Those belly bins below are nasty - I worked as a baggage handler in my late teens for a few yrs. The grossness could never be washed out of a softside bag fabric.

BJs has a set of normal sizes for carry-on/checked softside for $99 but its their brand. Not sure if any good.
I prefer soft luggage because I like having pockets.
The Delsey seemed good but the checked is too small
