If you have a local cycle shop, I would encourage you to contact them as the price is likely the same $250 and will probably end up being cheaper because there's no shipping charges ($50). Will also get support from that shop for patronizing them, and supporting a local business.
I believe I paid $268 out the door ($250 + taxes). Daughter and I had an fun picking it up, and she got to check out the cycle shop. Core memories.

Honestly though it may be doing a kid a disservice to start them on this - every other bike will feel heavy as i don't think there are really many 16 or 20 inch carbon bikes for children..

This Specialized is honestly an awesome deal for a 20" freewheel bike that doesn't have any gears. There aren't many bikes like this available, and for $250 its a good deal, especially if you can find locally and can avoid the $50 shipping.

Edit: The store with stock also probably bought these at the previous wholesale price, which is more than the current sale price, so they're already losing money on them. The store that's ordering them in now is getting them at the current reduced wholesale price and will have a little profit.
The geometry is excellent and now that he's maxed it out with seat all the way up - he's riding like a true adult cross country bike. However, he's ready for an upgrade. I think he needs gears at this points since he'll pedal that 14" like a hamster. Am I thinking right or should the single speed 20" be geared sufficiently to go very fast?

tbh, i'm precisely the person who WOULD buy something like this for my kid. thankfully she's 8 now and riding a normal two wheeler, and the doctor confiscated my testicles so i'm good there too.
