Some Ultra 2s do have the sensor. For instance you can still get them new from Costco with the sensor for $100 more - https://www.costco.com/apple-watc...18736.html. If the MPN ends in LL/A it has it enabled, LW/A it doesnt.
Personally I just went the used route. Found one with the sensor and 100% battery in good condition and saved a couple hundred bucks
I have the Ultra 1 and absolutely love it, and I don't see a need to upgrade to a Ultra 2 or the new black one and I want to upgrade but there hasn't been much improvement or new features to justify the cost difference of a Ultra 1 vs Ultra 2 IMO. You are likely to get better deals especially if you are willing to go refurbished/renewed or used. (Ultra 1 Renewed is $499 on Amazon right now)
The main new features you get with Ultra 2 are:
Double tap gesture support
On-device Siri with health access
Precision finding for iPhone
Hardware differences on the Ultra 2 vs. 1
1000 extra nits brightness on the Ultra 2
S9 Chip (vs S8 on Ultra 1)
64gb storage (vs 32gb on Ultra 1)
Gen 2 Ultra Wide-band chip (gen 1 on Ultra 1)
72 hours of battery life in low power mode (vs 60 on Ultra 1)
Ultra 1 would have Blood Oxygen if made and not refurbished before 2024 (from my understanding)
Not a noticeable difference in any way to 99% of users.

Same; anyone think that either the new black version, the absence of a 3 this year, or Black Friday will yield some deals?
I 100% think we will get some deals since it isn't a new model. I was definitely going to get an Ultra 3 this year, but now I'm either going to wait for next year or grab one of these (normal titanium finish) at discount before then. My series 7 stainless will easily last another year if it needs to.

Same position with a Garmin. It's a bummer it doesn't even have a feature my current watch has (pulse ox) and is a year old now with Apple still asking full price. Plus the trade in value sucks; a 2 year old Ultra 1 sold for $800 fetches $290, a $510 loss. I imagine trading in an Ultra 2 next year would be about the same. A year is a long time to wait though for pulse ox and micro LED and whatever they're going to put in it. I'm thinking it's probably the better call to wait unless a really good deal can be had on the Ultra 2…. Plus the just-released series 10 now has a better chip than the much more expensive Ultra 2! It was poor form IMO to release that, not release a new Ultra, and still not drop the price.
Some idiot is on a downvote spree here, especially in the comment section.
I would imagine they're an Android fan/Apple hater. It's sad that some people really can't bring objectivity to the table-ruin it for the rest of us.
It doesn't bother me personally but I see some valuable comments being voted unhelpful and wanted to provide encouragement for community members. Don't let haters discourage you from sharing your opinions and thoughts.

I've been looking at this and trying to decide if it's likely to go any lower in the next couple months…

Coming from my SS series 4 that can't make it past about 6pm anymore…I think I'm jumping in finally. With no 3 announced, I just can't wait another year. Been hoarding Amazon gift cards, I think it's time to redeem them.
Plus, I don't want black anyway for my watch. $110 off the color I prefer works for me.

I picked one up that was a credit return. 11 months left on the warranty and looks brand new. I didn't like the loop band and went back to my Nike sport band.

Accurate but just one more thing - sleep apnea detection is now coming to Ultra 2 and not Ultra 1. If you're looking at the used market, Ultra 2 has come down enough I think it's rarely worth picking an Ultra 1 over it that will also tend to have less battery health left. But certainly worth considering for a better deal.
