not too familiar with planers. This looks like it has a corner guide, does that mean it can only be used to plane narrow pieces? Anyone familiar wiht this know if you can remove the guide and plane something like a countertop or any large board? I know there's plank planers out there, just don't want to invest in the cash and size of something like that.

This can only plane areas as wide as the blade, so you wouldn't want to try a larger piece or counter unless you're ambitious and plan to sand the bejeezus out of it thereafter to even out the steps between the planer runs.
Have a floating wood basement floor. Used this to plane down all uneven joints before laying down LVP. Way better than sanding it down. Got mine at this same sale price.
Good price for battery and tool, but unless I missed something, no charger. If already using this brand 18v system, no problem, otherwise will need to purchase charger?
If you are going to buy this, then keep in mind that this thing burns through batteries fast. I ended up returning mine because of it. You'll get more power and unlimited runtime using the corded version of this.

That is correct. This deal and the charger with a 2ah and a 4ah batteries for $80 would be the way to go if needing a charger. So you have tool + charger + 2ah battery x 2 + 4ah battery for $160.
To fix a door that's a bit sticky at the top - would this tool work? would i have to remove the door, or can I just leave it on the hinge? I've tried removing the hinge pin and bending back the hinge but it didn't seem to help. Also have a couple of doors that are super tight after a couple of coats of think paint. wondering if I can just shave off the parts that rub.

This is a great tool for shaving doors down and getting rid of excess paint build up. You will likely have to remove the doors. This is what mine is used for. As a painter I want doors to open and close properly.

If it were just sticking a bit towards the edge, then maybe. To make a full pass I think you'll have to take it off.

couldn't you do the same thing with a circular saw with door resting on a couple of saw horses and a clamped down piece of wood to use as a guide? Or would it be easier to use a planer for shaving down doors?

Slightly off topic but anyone want to recommend a Ridgid to Ryobi adaptor on eBay? I prefer to stick to Ridgid but occasionally - for tools I'll use less often - I'm going to use Ryobi as my less expensive Plan B.
