Decent price on more interesting finishes.

Of note, the first link (to the HSS Plus Top Stratocaster) is not a Stratocaster Player Plus. The "Plus" goes with "Top" and refers to the fancier color and figured top gradient.

So I just made a big purchase and this isn't in the budget right now, but I've been wanting the surf green one for a while. It's apparently the lowest they've gone for, and I was wondering if it's because they're clearing out stock for something new. Sweetwater doesn't have these, for example. Does anyone have any insight on if these finishes are on their way out the door?

Sweetwater doesn't have them because most or all of these are Musician's Friend exclusives. Similar to the LPB Tele and Strat that's always on sale at Adorama, they have more control over MAP prices on exclusives.

This guitar has a beautiful finish. I was able to buy one lightly used off the fb marketplace for $300. Set it up, changed the pups and it's one of the best strats I own.

Another point about the HSS Plus Top Stratocaster is that, if it's like the one I had, the fretboard had a glossy finish. I'm not talking about the neck, but the fretboard itself. I found it a bit grabby on my fingertips.

exactly, definitely a whole different feel to it. I loved maple boards so much many years ago and tried to get used to it. I couldn't so I just ended up using a white scotch-brite to knock off the gloss. I now stick with natural wood finishes (smooth ebony is the best for me personally).

It took me a bit to figure out all maple fretboards weren't glossy!

I don't like the glossy fretboard, but different strokes....

I really prefer rosewood anyway.

That Blue Burst is Georgeous. I ld buy it if I didn't already have more guitars than skillz. I have a lake placid blue player strat and put a drop in fender noiseless pickup guard. It's hot AF and sounds amazing now. I'd like to add locking tuners but for as little as I play it there is no reason.

Fender just released the Player II series so they're probably clearing inventory for the newer models.

Exactly—the new Player II's (new colors, rolled fretboards, vintage tuners) are on preorder and coming out soon; some are out already. Word of warning on these: the resale market right now for Mexican-made Fenders (especially the Players) is low as it's ever been; take a quick look on Facebook marketplace or eBay. Everyone who bought a Player during Covid and never learned more than three chords is getting rid of them.

If you're in the "I don't really need it, but can always just sell it" category, think about buying used—it's real easy to find mint used guitars for cheap. Of course people still list them for $700 initially but eventually realize no one's buying and reduce the price or settle for offers. You can also find dozens of "used" MIM Fenders on sites like Proaudiostar that need to resell new returns as used to get around Fender MSRP minimums. Even the entry-level American market is pretty flooded right now.

I definitely wouldn't buy a new Fender Player (I) for a year or two at least; maaaaaybe under $550 (yes, certain new models have been that low when sites could lower prices further because Fender itself had a sale).
