maybe you can get away with mac, which i am not sure about... but if your argument in general implies 8gb is fine even with windows , sorry it aint. I just tried the asus OLED 14x with 8gb ram and man what a disaster with swap file disabled. Just with 2 tabs of chrome and youtube playback., out of memory error everywhere... Why would anyone decide to slap 8gb stick on that beautiful machine is beyond me... Of course, page file/swap file will help you get through the RAM caveat but at the expense of SSD wear, which one could argue very minimal, but every read and write counts..
On SSD wear front - no need to worry at all. Instead of 150 years life with this extra wear it will be 100.
I saw consumer grade SSD worn out only once. After 5 years used in performance test lab installed in database storage array, running tests 80 hours a week (8 hours india time + 8 hours US time x5) doing mostly writes close to it's write speed limit. It only failed because physical partitions were by mistake not aligned with logical during install so it had to do twice more writes than was required. The others next to it were still in use years later. Crucial M5 256GB and I still keep it in my collection.

great machine. i paid a lot more for 512GB harddrive and 16GB ram. But if its for a kid or you understand the limitations, you'd be hard pressed to find as good a laptop for $500.
S&D and Open Box are the most openly broad terms ever used by Amazon/Woot. Imo, a 5% chance of getting something worth 500$~. Trade in and off lease EDU computer that have been abused to bloody heck and back.

I am software engineer, specializing in performance tuning, my previous job I used 8 GB laptop to develop and test payment system used by 4 out of 10 biggest world banks. I am here to say - most people don't need more than 8 GB. Well, except those who also buy large 4L+ SUVs used for daily commute.
can you get me an intern in your company? im looking for a job now

That's a pretty staggering comparison. I don't know what you're measuring in liters, either, but we do love our Expedition! Though, my wife is a SAHM so it's not a commuter per se. My commuter Bronco returns about the same economy, 18MPG ish. 35,000 miles a year on that baby! Come to think of it, I better get back to the car forums. I don't know how I got here.
yea... This laptop is pretty old and this machine is refurbished so you really have no idea what that means, doesn't have a warranty. You can buy a sealed version from Walmart for $600 but I wouldn't personally.
128 gb is insane in 2024- The phone in your pocket probably has more storage. This is basically a netbook at best def do not buy.
You can get the m2 MacBook air for maybe $700
if you can't afford that (trust me I get it) just wait it out.

If they call it "Scratch n' dent", it probably was used for bricklaying by an angry gaggle of goons.

It looks like there is a 30 days return policy. However, read below:

This is creating e-waste - these M1 devices would last for twice as long if they had 16 GB of RAM.
Feels like an issue the European Union should do something about.
