, it did GREAT job. The steam power might be better. I've rent one from my friend, so I'm still sitting on a fence as to buy one = store it somewhere. Also steam heating element will not last long as in any steamer...
A Kroger rental is $40 for 2 days: https://www.kroger.com/p/rug-doct...74999091
I don't know if you've ever cleaned a carpet but it's a good amount of work - at minimum you should vacuum first and you might want to move some furniture like coffee tables and chairs (perhaps more) into another room if you're going to go to the trouble of using a carpet cleaner. Carpet cleaning is a good bit slower than vacuuming (for example: 2 passes to clean, 2 passes to suck up water). And because the carpet will be wet and take time to try, you'll probably want to do only half the rooms one day, and half the next day. So you're on the hook for a minimum $40 and that could easily turn into $80 if you go over. Don't forget the hassle of lugging that thing to and from the store.
If you buy a carpet cleaner, if you're like me you might decide it beneficial to run it once a year (it's true you can rent less than once a year. But the price to pay is dirtier carpet). This unit has a 5 year warranty so if you buy it and it lasts just one extra year you're about breaking even compared to renting 1/yr for 6 years which comes out to $240 (assuming you never go over the allotted 2-day rental period). Based on this, if it sounds like buying makes more sense than renting - go ahead and buy.
As for my Bissell, the first time I ran it the dirty water it sucked up was black. So it made a big difference in cleanliness. Subsequent yearly cleanings the dirty water was "only" brownish. So quite worthwhile for maintaining a relatively good cleanliness level. I'm glad I bought it (and it's lasted more than 5 years).
Does anyone know if this is cheaper in-warehouse? I was there last night but didn't check out the vacuum aisle and won't be back for another two weeks.
