Non-owners always have a LOT to say about these – and believe me, I get it, I swore up and down I never wanted or needed one of these things. I got one as a gift two years ago and I would unequivocally say I would buy myself one now and have given a few as gifts. They just WORK and are perfect for a slow coffee drinker, like myself. For the record, I only opened the app once, I don't need to futz with temps after one setting.

My main tip, though: do not waste your time/money/coffee on anything less than the 14 ounce, the 10 ounce is just TOO little.

In my experience the warranty isn't the best. Have the Mug2 and lid broke when I pressed it in after a few months. Had to practically beg for them to do a one time exception and send me a replacement after sending pictures and videos of broken lid. Still had receipt and within 1 year of ownership.

The Gen 2 has a button on the bottom, you hold it down and it turns off.
Pro tip for my ember fam, buy a small pack of rubber coated baby spoons to stir your coffee.
Never use a regular spoon as it will chip the coating.

I drink slowly so I tried one of these a couple years ago. Wife mocked me hardcore. It didn't bother me, because it works for me and makes my coffee and tea enjoyable until the end. Eventually she started to soften her stance and I bought one for her as a gift. She absolutely loves it and uses it nearly everyday.

Additionally this helps if you're not the kind of person that can drink liquids as hot as lava. My mouth can't handle it so this cup allows it to get to MY temp and then just stay there. With Yetis and the equivalent the drink would stay hot AF for 2 hours and I wouldn't even be able to drink it and then it would cool and go right past my preferred temp. I just didn't really get to enjoy my drinks.

For the most part though there is an easy way to decide whether these are right for you. Do you drink slowly and prefer a more medium heat, buy this mug. Does your drink barely have time to hit your mug and at scorchingly high heat before you finish it entirely? Skip this one.

Looks like the gen1 has a button on the bottom too, never really had a need for it- really what point is there in turning it off if it turns off automatically?? I use the big plastic stirrer from the aero press. I've been using the gen1 14oz with the mocamaster I got on prime day. What a machine, I dread having coffee from a standard drip pot when I'm not home. Clean your drip machines people!!! LOL

The price is hard to argue with compared to normal. The 30 day warranty is a bit concerning since it seems like there's quite a few reviews of folks having issues with them.

I think you just really need to evaluate your coffee/tea habits. For example it would probably be great for my girlfriend who only needs 30-60 min of time with her morning tea/coffee getting ready or she's at her desk all day where she could have it on the charger, etc. I could also see it if you traveled a lot in the car if you had the auto charging option. For me I don't think it would make sense cause I'm a much slower coffee/tea drinker and I'm all over the place during the day. So for me I'd want more battery life and just using a good thermos that keeps hot drinks hotter much longer than 1-2 hours is better.

I've had 2 Ember mugs. I get the appeal, but the batteries are NOT replaceable and that makes these limited use products that you WILL need to throw in the trash no matter what.

Ember has been so lame about battery replacement (it's clearly part of their model to have you buy a new one when the battery dies) that trusting refurb units where you don't know the battery status? Uhhh…

Hard pass even as a previous owner

That's unfortunate to hear that's where their service is now. I had a mug 1 that had issues with the finish and they replaced it twice basically no questions asked, then the third time it happened they upgraded me to the mug 2 which IIRC I had a different problem with as well and they replaced it too with only asking for pics of the serial number and the issue.

What an incredibly odd question. You can buy products made for the purpose for a similar or cheaper price, so it's a bad idea for like 9 different reasons, but yeah lady, you can send your kid to school with a $100 thermos of mac and cheese if its watery enough to make full contact.

I cannot emphasize how weird of a question this is though. Please don't send your kid to school with a delicate $100 travel mug full of hot macaroni and cheese. lmao

The temperature concept is great.

The non-replaceable battery and the fact that all nonstick coating eventually comes off is a no good. How it makes sense to charge people 100 bucks for a disposable mug is freaking beyond me. These are worth 50 bucks brand new at best because of those consideration, and I say that, even considering development fees, because Walmart sells almost identical bootleg mugs with battery for like 30 bucks. And yes, the coating eventually came off. People drink coffees and tea and milk drinks with these, so naturally it will stain and naturally requires some gentle friction/scrubbing to clean, and eventually the coat will goes with it.

I have a ceramic one from Amazon that doesn't have battery and the heating only happens when connected to the on charging pad, but at least the coating doesn't come off, and I don't worry about things burning on a traditional mug warmer.

I find the Ohom to be a better option. The mug is inductive and uses a charging pad to heat. Very little to go wrong and no batteries. I've had mine for several years and it's been great.

Fellow slow drinker here! This is my 2nd mug, & wouldn't be without one. I agree 100% that 14oz is the one to get; I first bought a 10-oz mug—it holds probably 6-7 oz filled to the rim. 14 oz looks huge, but it's the perfect size. At this price, I'm ready to buy another one. My one pet peeve is with Ember's charging pins—they retract/bend/break easily. It's time for Ember to revamp their charging plate;; maybe switch to a [mini] C charger?
& BTW, does anyone know if these refurbished mugs come with a warranty?

I've owned the original and mug2... but returned both.

Why? The handle.... it is just too thin. Made gripping a full cup of coffee unnatural.

I use a warming plate at my office desk and a 3/4 silicone lid (keeps some heat in without blocking the aromas of the coffee as I sip.
