Why we got the "Hack police" downvoting my comments...
If you don't like it, get outta here. It works.
To the others, upvote my shit if I've ever helped you or if you just want to because you like deals.
Can usually figure it out with the following
F = "Free" item
P = "Paid" item

If wanting paid item: P*P/(F+P)
If wanting free item: F*P/(F+P)

Can be more complicated if one of the items is sold in store as a marked down price but they list it as "saving" MSRP, in that case the marked down price is what you use. Home Depot's website has helped me learn and test my theories on exact stuff like this. Since Lowe's only works in store, you have to be at a register before you see the results.

Not bad... for those only needing the tool or battery, there is a potential of pretty big savings through buy & return hack. In store ONLY

Lowe's doesn't have the hack available. That's HD

It certainly does work, only works in store though.
Unless they've changed how items are discounted on receipt very recently.

I don't have any first hand experience from this specific drill but it seems to be a very good one, especially for the price. DCD998 and DCD999 are essentially the same product from what it seems, at least as far as the consumer is concerned. Power Detect and Flexvolt Advantage are very similar, if not the same. Read here if interested... [toolrev.com]

Appears that these are the items for "free", all XR and Power Detect models:
Reciprocating Saw DCD368B [lowes.com]
7 1/4" Circular Saw DCS574B [lowes.com]
1/2" Hammer Drill (3 speed) DCD998B [lowes.com]
4.5" Grinder DCG415B [lowes.com]

Also, YMMV, but looks like the battery price will be $113.80 and tool price will be $85.20.

I have it. Very powerful. Hammer function for a drill best I have seen (against Milwaukee) and torque is laid down quite evenly. This is my only drill i kept (and m12 milwaukee) The newer ones not really much of a change as far as I can tell, there just isn't much more to do innovation in this tool cat, because the dedicated hammers are getting crazy. I also use this for heavy polishing and it doesn't overheat which is huge if you need to grind for 30-40 min. Its also beefy and heavy, my only other comment. LoL the tool clip I removed and used elsewhere.

It's because we call it a "hack" and people can't comprehend the fact that if it were against the rules/retailer didn't want it to happen, they would stop it. People internally think of it as being shady so they project their own incorrect thoughts/feelings on reality... Again, incorrectly

Exactly, for example, Lowe's doesn't allow it online and Home Depot regularly has "BOGO" deals along side the hackable ones that are the same tools and prices.
I always buy separately if possible even if wanting both items. If I end up wanting to return later or have an issue and need to address it there's no chance they'll ask for the rest of the "item".
