Two things...
1. Make sure the mouthpiece is fully open.
2. Check the straw length, sometimes it bottoms out on the inside of the bottle so there's no gap allowing water to flow.

I have three of these and i find you have to suck really hard to get any liquid through the straw.

This. I cut the bottom at a tiny angle and the flow improved.

I have three of these and i find you have to suck really hard to get any liquid through the straw.

I appreciate the response.. I have tried everything you stated. The air hole in the top is just too small in the version I have and dosent allow enough air to come through it. I thought it was the straw hitting the bottom so I even cut it about a quarter inch to see if that helped. It did not. Maybe mine were defective or something.. I ended up giving them away to my students.
