Go to the Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation store and download the Open Beta between September 11 at 9 AM PT and September 16 at 9 AM PT.

Open Beta Installation Instructions
Steam (PC)- Navigate to the Store tab
- Search "New World"
- Click "New World" to navigate to the Steam page
- Once on Store page, scroll down to find "Join the New World Playtest"
- Click "Request Access"
- After clicking, access should be granted instantly
- Click "Play Now"
- Confirm download
Xbox Series X|S

- Launch Xbox
- Navigate to the Store page
- Search "New World"
- Find "New World: Aeternum Open Beta"
- NOTE: Prior to downloading, Open Beta will only appear when searching for New World on the Store page.
- Start download
PlayStation 5
- Launch PlayStation 5
- Navigate to the Store page
- Search "New World"
- Find "New World: Aeternum Open Beta"
- Select the ellipsis (the three dots) found to the right of the "Wishlist" button
- Upon selecting the ellipsis, a dropdown will appear
- Select "Open Beta"
- Select "Install"
- Start download

Internet is only 12mb here and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I was getting only .09 - .17mb of speed.
Turns out it was Steam auto downloading the beta.

There was no big motivation to progress other than to level skills, which wasn't enough for me.
It works smoothly on console though, which can be a challenge for these types of games.
