How durable is this saw and how sharp do the edges keep? I need something for softer materials but once in a while I come across a hard surface.

Yes, a typical saw will cut on push and are usually pretty flimsy. That's the way it has been for a long time so I'm not sure how that's really a negative since it's not being advertised as some sort of premium or crosscut saw, it's what I would expect for what's normally an $11 saw...
