SoC = State of Charge.

When replying to someone who has asked a question that indicates they don't have much background in the topic, it's nice to avoid using industry-specific acronyms and abbreviations.

FYI the 6000 cycles of LF280K cells is based on research using a specific amount of cell compression, around 600 pounds. The cells themselves aren't different, just the datasheet with the word 'compression'. I guarantee this company did no better than tie a zip tie around these cells. That would vary compression between too much and too little as the cells naturally swell and shrink. Basically this is no different than any previous 3000 cycle battery, which would still be a daily cycle for 8 years.

These batteries are really coming down in price. I built a 280Ah battery 3 years ago for $750 which was a bargain at the time, there's just not much incentive to do that anymore. A few notes, though...
  • It doesn't look like the BMS in this battery has low-temp shut-off for charging, so you'll have to be careful not to charge below 0F (EDIT: meant 32F. Or 0C), being conservative.
  • Max charge current is 160A, so you'll have to put a DC-DC converter between it and your alternator if your application includes charging from an alternator (van, travel trailer, etc.).
  • They do mention that charging methods are a battery charger (preferably lifepo4), solar controller, or DC-DC converter, so it's not really drop-and-replace for a lead-acid battery, but it's a nice amount of capacity at a good price even with those extra expenses.
what alternator and voltage regulator are going to push 160A into a battery lead acid or otherwise? That would boil a lead acid away quite quickly.

Question. I have a 12v 400a alternator, would I need a dc to dc converter?
most vehicles have a voltage regulator/charge current limiter to prevent overcharging and boiling lead acid batteries. you should check into what your vehicle has

I'm looking to build a DIY home back up in case of power outage. I would like to get 6000 to 7000 watts total running all 120v appliances. I'm looking to charge it via 120v plug either from gas generator or grid, no solar. I'd like to connect to the house panel by the 30amp generator inlet. If I buy 4 of these batteries, what other components would I need?

Was looking for a tear down when I purchased myn months ago and couldn't find one, only reviews. I got 4 and was fairly happy so got 4 more on the next sale. Running a shed off these and also have a working, but complete "solar generator" with one of these trying to make it stackable with another one, hut need to rework wiring for that. With a few solar panels it could run some medium size appliances nearly indefinitely. Fairly impressed for the price point. Still some of these already made models such as the larger percron are getting more difficult to beat diy.

Could I use this battery, 6x400w solar panels with a Vevor 2400w all in one inverter and have a full 3kwh system?

You could not charge this with an ecoflow alternator. But you could essentially treat this like your vehicles 12v battery and run the ecoflow alternator to charge other things at a much higher volt/wattage...
Hmm, but the EcoFlow Alternator Charger has reverse charging? Is there any limitation that prevents a power station to reverse charge this through the alternator charger?

Good deal. I got two of these last time and use it for ~7 kilowatt hours of solar storage.

Sure. I got the

I got the "Duracell Ultra 12V 110AH 800CCA AGM Deep Cycle Marine & RV Battery". You can certainly find less expensive batteries, but you want an AGM Deep Cycle with a good warranty.

Wayne Pumps sells a 75 AH (lower rated AH, so it won't run as long) but may be slightly cheaper.
I looked at that link, and forgive me, but it shows at 50% SoC it degrades faster than 90% SoC. Anyway if this lost 50% of its charge in 4 years (just wild for a sump pump battery, unless you are constantly losing power and this is being used often) than it still would have a higher AH than the Duracell you mentioned brand new. The lead acids cost quite a lot, and just going off a fvp at my local menards, it's over $200 for a 100ah one. So to me, having this at this price, and still have 140ah at year 4 seems pretty good. I'd of course measure it's ah to get a feel, but even if it's 100ah at year 4 than it seems it would be worth it since the traditional should be less than the 100ah at year 4 anyway.

I of course could be missing something, so I figure I would ask your opinion on my summation. Thanks!

Is 6.4¢/cycle a good price for 62 lbs of battery?

Very easily actually. You can get a hybrid inverter which contains most of the important stuff in one unit, and will manage and prioritize power input and output however you want to configure it. They range anywhere from a few hundred to 1k+ depending on brand, and specs/your needs. One of those + wire + a few other misc items to wire in for safety is all you need.

That said, there's not many 12v ones when it comes to those units, and they (the 12v ones) tend to be cheap and low power so may not be sufficient. Most of your options are 24v and 48v systems…which a pair of these would work out great for…but if you want to run that sort of thing on a single battery, you are better off with a 24v battery and more hybrid inverter options rather than a 12v and being very limited. Something like 2x of these batteries, $500 or so 3000w 24v hybrid inverter, + your wire and misc stuff would be a great cost effective system for the capacity.
This is what I did with 2 of these exact batteries. I bought the POWLAND 3000W Solar Inverter charger for ~$350 and been running them for a few months. I have 400watts solar connected and can run my fridge and Internet stuff for a few days, even ran my AC for 12 hours or so. I have to charge the batteries every few days as I don't leave the unit connected to mains all the time.

Tempted to get two more batteries for increased capacity at this price.

My only concern is disposing of these when the time comes and if it'll be a hassle.

A 12v inverter and a 12v charger. But I would not recommend going with 12v dc for a house battery. The only options out there are very inefficient, and the wire size needed for 12v is going to be very expensive. 24v system would be the bare minimum, but 48v is what most people use.

I just noticed these batteries support 4s so a 48v is doable but you still have 4 12v bms. Not the ideal solution, but as long you don't cycle them daily they should keep themselves balanced within each other.

This acts just like a normal battery and my understanding is that YES you can charge and discharge this battery with the EF Alternator Charger when it's attached to something like the Delta 2. I have yet to do this as I've been saving for the parts but after exhaustive research this has been the answer I've been given. Hobotech does a video showing this working.

This feels like a new level of price drop for these systems wow. This is around 10 cents per kwh. 2 of these and a decent inverter for 1-1.2k all in gives you 7~kwhs of battery backup/soloar charg/discharge. Insane. Like mind blowing.
