Here is another decent deal on another good AVR.

Emotiva has 25% off on their BasX receivers making the well reviewed MR1L $1199.

Internally powers 9 channels, can process 13!

This would have no problem driving common speakers found in here.
Even more inefficient ones would be fine to moderate levels.

RC can be quirky but ultimately gives very good results.

I have the big brother MR1 and quite happy with the sound performance specially the subwoofer performance.

Get this receiver for raw power, each channel has a dedicated amp. Does not have any fancy bells and whistles like an app or Dirac room correction. Remote is good, gets the job done and has dedicated level buttons for center, front and subwoofer. The GUI is barebones but that's about it. Build quality and performance are top notch.

I toured their facility recently and they have a new 11 channel AVR coming out soon that they were building when I was there. Looked great but it only had XLR connections.

If it only had XLR connections then it was a Processor not AVR. AVRs have amps built into it. And yes they are coming out with new Processor and AVR models with Dirac Live and streaming, hence these are on sale now.

Kinda have to agree, this easily competes with the common 9 channels AVRs in here.
I would even put it up against the 11 channel AVRs power wise.

Many don't need Dirac Live, just look at the continued popularity of Yamaha, Denon & Marantz.

When I had a Dirac receiver, I never noticed a big enough change to bother. Maybe my room is treaded with panels, that's why.

The quality of components on Emotiva would also be higher, not to mention a large toroidal transformer that's only available on flagship receiver models.

There are many reasons why it wasn't but room treatments benefit any setup.

When you implement a RC properly it's not going to be some major difference as people always portray it as.

Our room is fairly well treated and comparing Audyssey and Dirac on my 3800.
In the end Dirac gets the slight edge mainly because of DLBC.

FYI they have their XMC-2 processor that supports Dirac Live on sale also for $2198.
Let's hope the new model(s) are less expensive & support DLBC.

I'd get this, but I have a very solid amp, and 2 additional mono channels that my supports for 7 ch. All I care for is 5ch with 2 subs, and all I think I want is a processor so I can get DTS and other Dolby mixes. I care less for 11 atmos. My sub had come with a mic to correct, but I dont have it, so cant do that adjustment. And the amp is manual with speaker size and manual adjusts. What it can use is updated processing.

Any suggestions for a basic processor?

i built floor-to-ceiling rockwool panels, put 'em in the corners, as well as some other panels on the side walls... it did knock higher frequency reverb down, deadened the room to some extent, but when i measured the sub frequencies using rew it was subwoofer placement that made a huge difference, including increasing the overall bass response by a significant margin.

running audyssey on top of that cleaned up the dips/bumps, but i didn't much like it at higher frequencies, it just wasn't gelling with the overly bright klipsch speakers... not sure that dirac will fix that.

Emotiva makes MC1 process which is probably the cheapest new processor, and is exactly what's inside this MR1 AVR.

Your other options are get an AVR with pre-amps (Integra DRX 3.4 / Onkyo RZ50) etc. take advantage of Dirac + your amps.

If I'm reading right, these only support hdmi 2.0b, meaning no 4k120. At this price tier, even if it runs speakers good, not having at least a couple hdmi 2.1 ports on an AVR feels like a dealbreaker.
