Lots of wattage, but they're loud. So, prepare for that. And if you're not putting much load on 'em, that's a lot of fuel to suck down. Great for a short-use home backup though (assuming you don't try running a 4 ton a/c with a bunch of other appliances!)

What is soft-start? My contractor will be installing a manual transfer for my hurricane-ally renovation and this duromax is one of the ones I'm looking at. I have a 4-ton HVAC but only 2 of us live in the house.

It ran my 5 ton ac and everything else I needed in the house after a drunk took out the power pole to 5000 people

Operating with a noise rating of 72 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a vacuum cleaner)

The THD on these units was surprisingly low.

I bought this exact model pre-covid, 5 or 6 years ago. It was $520, but of course, times be chang'n , and the need for these went up, etc etc.

I installed a big ol' marina plug to the side of my house so I can go from the 50A 220V plug straight into my home. It lands on a 220V breaker that has the little safety interlock kit so I can't turn the power from the generator over to the house unless my mains are off (so as to not kill anyone working the lines).

My home uses a modest amount of power (500-800w all the time) but obviously will burst to 2000w when the microwave is on, etc.

This has always handled the whole home. I know it says 10k watts, but that's probably not the running wattage it covers, but rather, the 'burst' wattage. It's good to have a lot of headroom.

I've changed the oil zero times. I've always put gas stabilizer in it before winter. Has always started up. Tubes are starting to show signs of cracking or wear though, even though it has been 98% in the garage through its life. I'd consider a small resin shed to store it outdoors if I find any on sale...

I've since moved to a modest DIY solar setup that took over 4 circuits in the home we use heavily during the day. So, my power outages... we almost don't even pull this out anymore; I suppose I'd pull it out if I had a multi-day event of outage + cloudy for those days as well.

I'd buy it again, despite all my UPS's in the home freaking out over how dirty the power is.

you should definitely change the oil in your generator a few times during the break in period, after you bought it.

Great comment on changing the oil after the break in period. A Magnetic Oil Dipstick is a good idea as well.

Non inverter generator... "Dirty energy" has potential to destroy some electronics. It costs less than inverter, but at some risks.

Unlikely it'll harm anything but yes, possible.
