The frequently available deal ($250-$270) of Lenovo Ideapad i3-1215U/8GB/256GB appears to be a better 15.6" touchscreen alternative of similar performance in a sense that it has an empty SODIMM slot for RAM upgrade when needed, though smaller 256GB SSD and no backlit/PD charging.

If it's nothing, buy one and use it as your daily driver. Then call us from 2008 and let us know how 8gb is working out for you.

It is surprising they soldered a DDR4 RAM (and not an LP variant). This should easily have been upgradable. And would have made it a really good option for basic school work. 300 Nits display is a rare for sub-300 price. Really a bad decision from Lenovo's part.

The idea pad 1 is better as you can add more RAM and it cost the same as this one.

It wouldn't matter, 8GB isn't enough today and will suck even more in the future. The RAM is soldered so you're stuck with it.
These are such bs replies. I upgraded my laptop from 8gb to 16gb and didn't notice one bit of difference. It was a waste of money. 8gb is enough.
