About this game:- As a member of the village's local "Defence Force" tasked with the protection of Kratus, Roddick learns of a mysterious disease that has broken out in the neighboring town. Those infected turn to stone, but continue to live on in a petrified state.
- Roddick, along with his two friends Millie and Dorne, make their way to the neighboring town. Informed of a cure for the sickness, they head to Mt. Metorx where a healing herb is rumored to grow. When they reach the summit, the party encounter Ronyx and Ilia, who appear before them in a pillar of light.

Are you a fellow Millennial (or other retro game enjoyer) who pines for the Golden Age of JRPGs (the 90s), when games had well-written characters with colorful personalities, great development arcs, and fascinating, original plots? This is the game for you. This is a gorgeous remake of one of the last games to be released on the SNES, which was so jam-packed with features and content it stretched the absolute limits of what an SNES cartridge could do.
Gameplay is zippy and fun, more 'real time' than turn-based (more like Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana than Final Fantasy). Stat min-maxers will have a field day optimizing character builds, but it's also not strictly necessary to do so if you're a filthy casual like me. The story is one of the most well-done mashups of fantasy and sci-fi I've encountered in a game (IMO that combo doesn't always work out well, but it does here). Game has a great soundtrack and tons of replayability, since you can choose your own party composition which has an effect on the direction of the story and conclusion. Tons of optional character interactions build up your reputation among party members, which also affects story. Such a fantastic game!

Wonder if First Depatrue R is better or Second Story R?
https://www.nintendo.co
There is also Last Hope 4K on steam that seems to have better graphics but not good reviews:
https://store.steampowe
Only 6.29 though.... seems like a very good price for 4K graphics... If the gameplay is not too awful.

The first game is much more "basic" but still incredibly solid.

First Departure is good though and a fun playthrough especially handheld.

While last hope is enjoyable if you're into it, I wouldn't recommend it over 2. It has a bit of ps3 era jank to it. I really like the divine force, the 6th game in the series. But again opinions are divided on it. Long story short, the safest bet is to play Second Story R.
First Departure was originally only a Japanese exclusive on Super Famicon, with a smaller and simpler story, but finally got release worldwide when it was re-made for PSP using the Second Story game engine. They also back-ported in some features from the second game to make it a little bit bigger, and it makes the game all that much better.
Should you get 1st or 2nd? Get both. They are an absolute steal at any price if you have never played them before, and worth picking up on sale if you have.

As your question, seems like grinding is required, but experienced players may be able to work around it.
