Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

I have two and considering buying one more to mess around with dd wrt. Wondering if the community could help answer the following questions:

Q1) If I flash the master with dd wrt, do I need to re-establish the slave to create the mesh?
Q2) Does both the master and slave(s) need to be all flashed with the dd wrt to work as a mesh or only the master needs to be flashed?

Thanks in advance.

You would use an ethernet cable from the wall in one of your other rooms and configure this device to behave like an access point as mentioned earlier in the thread. Just pick the room that will give you the best coverage for the areas that need it.
Thanks man. Everywhere I look on the internet says "plug directly into your router" I figured the Ethernet Jack would be fine but wanted to make sure.

They're using multiple accounts (other household members, Family & friends etc). Some are just purchasing them outright at $20 after the first @ $15.

Did you just use the out of the box software or openWRT?
Out of the box software. If you search SD for the previous thread where it was $15, there are step by step instructions. It was very easy.

1. Yes, if your master is DD-WRT, then you have to re-establish the slaves unless the settings are the same. I am assuming that the slaves are already DD-WRT.

2. Yes, all devices need to be flashed DD-WRT to avoid any issues. Since the mesh is a 802.11s protocol, you can use a device flashed with OpenWRT and try to add as a node but not sure how it works in reality! It's always better to flash the same firmware on all your nodes to avoid any issues, imo.

FWIW, I am NOT using DD-WRT and have been a BIG fan of OpenWRT and flashed all my 3 MX4300 with qosmio's NSS build and the mesh setup works wonderfully well!

Ordered the 4th today and maybe, order another one or not is the question on my mind now. lol

Got 2 of them from the last sale and got a mesh running in a few minutes with the stock firmware. Now getting 600 Mbps everywhere in the house. It's wild that you can set up a WiFi 6 system like this for $30 when the next cheapest option with similar specs and performance will be like $150 minimum.
You can often get a Deco Wifi 6 system with years of firmware security updates for around $60 on sale. Here's one 3 unit system last month

Super thank you for the quick and detailed response. Is open wrt easier to install? I heard it is a bit harder. The reason I was leaning towards dd wrt is they have a wiki site which explains on what to do. Does the open wrt have something similar? Again super thanks for the input.

Often? That was a location-dependent, one-time sale with many cancelled orders.

It's also only dual band.

The installation is similar to DD-WRT. The reason you feel intimidated is because the initial firmware OpenWRT release didn't have luci, which is the GUI to configure the router. You have to SSH to the router and install luci. There are other builds that already include luci as well and here is one such build: https://github.com/arix00/openwrt...0/releases

Initial install instructions are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/...utm_term=1
