Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Might be a dumb question but could I buy multiple of these routers and create my own mesh network? Sorry, I'm a total networking newbie

I am also running the stock Linksys software. It works fine but it is severely limited in functionality. No port forwarding... wtf? I am going to have to install DDWRT or Tomato or something else on this.

Someone said OpenWRT bricked their router, and apparently this model is not supported by OpenWRT.

But other than the lame software, I am happy with the hardware performance so far. It definitely hits Wifi 6 speeds.
You can port forward using the original LinkSys firmware:

That's why you flash openwrt and all it takes is a grand total of not more than 15 minutes. No brainer deal and I already ordered my 4th. Lol
When people were buying this for $20-$25 a couple months ago openwrt and dd-wrt didn't exist for this router. Looks like a new development. No way would I risk my network on stock with a router like this, but dd-wrt is interesting. I might have to fiddle around with this now.

People are able to setup wired backhaul to a 2nd router? I don't need mesh, it only becomes a headache with disconnects of clients. I just want the main router to be DHCP, and the wired backhaul router to output a 2nd set of wireless SSIDs. That works just as well as mesh, minus any of the downside.

Pro tip: all your IP cams and IoT devices and smart home devices should be on an entirely different SSID, segregate them out from your main LAN. You don't want your iphones, laptops, desktops and whatever devices that you think is important to be "breathing the same air" as the IoT devices.
The reason you want to do that is so your IoT devices don't become a way for someone to break into your computers/etc.

As they say, "The S in IoT stands for Security."

Ideally you would also put your Smart TVs in that other network and use an external box for streaming.

Haha, replace T-Mobile Asus? You are talking about what exactly I am going to do. The router has better good signal than my Aruba AP.
Having two $15 and other $20 amazon .

Yes… these is replacing three of tmobile AC-1900 flashed with asus firmware for mesh network (AP and two nodes) 😁. Mesh as always and never goes back as standalone AP

Yes. Having one AP and one node (wired haul") . Adding my last node for $15

I was running tmobile AC1900 mesh one AP and two nodes.

Dismantling tmobile AC1900 and running LN1301 with one AP and one node. Buying extra one for another node😁

How? It has two partitions. Use one for openwrt, one for stock. Just make sure to run the right version. There is a Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/s/YA7WM5aUMI that describes the process.
Actually I think both will be overwirrten by OpenWRT. When I bricked partition 1, partition 2 was OpenWRT, then I proceed to brick partition 2 by accident lol

Mesh disconnects/reconnects mostly seamless to me😁.

Does your current system do everything you need?

Then why would you upgrade to something that uses more power, has less features, no firmware updates, and you can find better systems on sale for not much more (deco costco deal last month was $60 for 3 units).
Rbk50 is no longer supported. I just replaced my 5 with 6 of these. Speeds increased and stock firmware running fine.

With people from this forum's help, was able to setup a mesh with 3 of these babies. Going to buy a 4th one to try out openwrt/ddwrt, before moving whole system to it

Thanks again with all the supports and advices.

Oh, ok. Yeah, in this case, your options are limited. Don't worry, as others said - that's the time to invest into serial cable. And being able to fix devices on your own (please advise a good one if you find, need as well)

Depending on the device, I don't think just putting them on a separate SSID alone actually segregates them. I think that the SSID would need to be attached to a different VLAN for segregation. Like I said, it might AP/Router/Device dependent.
