Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Can it be used as a repeater without downloading any extra software? Need to amplify signal in parts of my house so I can used wired connection in the weak area. have 600mpbs strength but only get 50 or so in this weak room.
If that is your only need, I have had great success with this TP-Link wifi extender, currently about $13 but goes on sale for $10.50 often: TP Link wifi extender [amazon.com]

Bought three of these, couldn't get wired backhaul mesh up and running well. My current set up is two openwrt askey routers rebranded from a cable provider and flashed.

I guess I'll hang onto them for now and check back in a little while if progress of faqs, guides, and firmware stability improves

Seems like we do not understand what open source is.
We do. Are you opening the source code and reviewing what this person did to all the source before compiling it yourself?

Whew guys

So I got these on the $20 deal. I run them on stock. They run as a mesh. They are attached to my existing Asus router which runs my custom firmware. So the first Linksys LN1301 is on bridge mode and is the 'parent' node and all the others are child nodes. I turned the radios off on my Asus router and I just use that for parental controls / NextDNS / device management. It works well this way.

The coverage inside and outside my big old house is great. I love it. Wifi speeds are much faster than they were with the Asus AC router. I recommend them.

Easiest option: get one or more of the LN1301s. Pick one, connect it to your T-Mo router by the ethernet cable, power it on, and go to its admin page. Set it in Bridge Mode. Wait a bit and then go to the LN1301's admin page (http:// linksysXXXXX.local where the XXXXX is the numbers on the bottom of your LN1301). This is now the mesh parent unit. Follow the steps to add mesh children. (They are linked multiple times in all these threads). Add as many as you want.

I'm on stock. I am unconcerned with the perceived bad reputation of Linksys.

I am not concerned, myself. If it's an AP it's behind a router/firewall and not directly exposed to the internet. To me it's like asking if there's a security update for a switch...it's just urgent. However, anyone can chime in if I'm wrong.

That is a very small loaf of bread....

You can run them as a mesh on bridge mode, and set the SSID and password to be the same as your existing router. I guess that's kind of a jerryrigged mesh with the Xfinity router then. However, I tried this, and in my case, my existing router didn't play nice with the mesh units. Despite running lower speeds, it wouldn't hand off to the mesh units like they hand off between each other.
So wait I can do my home setup like this?

Modem/wifi -> parent linksys in bridge mode -> child node wirelessly connected to the parent node?

Yes can be done

While there isn't a huge difference between Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 for most use cases, there's a huge difference in game streaming. I'm getting significantly better, Wii U level performance all over the house now, with very little buffering, artifacts, or perceived input lag.

I have a deco x75 pro running 3 units through out the house, mostly have everything on wifi 6 with my phone and iPad on 6e. Any reason to try these out beyond the fact I like hoarding routers/electronics (have m9, x60, tmobile asus routers)

Got one last time. One seems to work for my whole house. Any reason to get a second to make a mesh?
If one works and you're satisfied, then no. You could buy one literally as a backup though.

This is the second post I've seen pointing out the high energy usage across this deal and the previous one and it is important to note if you're looking to save money - 9w idle is high and adds up if you're running multiple - that's at least 4.5 kwh per month if you're running 3. If you don't care about that it's still a great deal for the specs these have, it's going to cost you roughly $10 per year to run one of these 24x7.

I'm running 6 Netgear WAX 202s that I got a couple years ago for about $20 each and they don't even register any power usage when I tried to measure them, that's using OpenWRT on them. These are only dual band so I'd entertain an upgrade with these if it wasn't for this high energy usage.
I wonder, has anyone verified energy measurement on the LN1301 when running OpenWRT or DDWRT? I know some were wondering if maybe energy usage could be brought down via another firmware, as it might give better control over NSS cores, clock rates, radios, etc.

Can anyone point me to any guide on how to set up the LN1301 behind Tmo home internet router?

Thank you!
1 - Plug it into the wall
2 - Plug the router into the Tmo home box
3 - See #1 and 2

Done.

Not %100 but I would think so. My TP link mesh does this.
