Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

This doesn't support mesh.
Not true, I currently have multiple child nodes connected to this unit on stock firmware

Does anyone know what green means on the router light? Got two from last deal and finally messed around with them today. Were fine on stock but tried Dd-wrt for usb support and now have the green lights on both.

Is it true that the USB port on the back of the router is not usable? I like to plug a hard drive into it that contains my movies so I can stream them upstairs.
Atleast for now it's not usable

Is this good for vr ?
fer sure. If you flash with open source firmware, you can get the USB port working, plug in a drive to create a network drive, then massively expand memory for oculus.

Come on, I've already got 4, now saving money for a house that needs 5 of them.
This thing use more electric than most other routers, your electric bill will go up with 5 of them.

Redundancy! If you only need 3 it's $15 to save you if one goes down.
Those are the types of reasons that got me a house stuffed to the brim with shit 🤣

I managed to possibly brick mine when uploading ddwrt. The steps were incredibly simple and this isn't my first time dealing with ddwrt so I'm not sure where things went wrong. I see a ddwrt SSID but I can't access the management portal. Anyone deal with this or know how to recover to stock?

Pro tip: all your IP cams and IoT devices and smart home devices should be on an entirely different SSID, segregate them out from your main LAN. You don't want your iphones, laptops, desktops and whatever devices that you think is important to be "breathing the same air" as the IoT devices.
My guess is that VLANs are going to become standard for routers in the future. Can anyone confirm they got this to work on their beta DD-WRT or OpenWRT?

is it a reasonable assumption that everyone buying multiple units lives in mansions?

Nah. It's definitely easy to deploy so many units that the APs themselves cause interference. Depends on materials etc

Most routers support a guest network out of the box which could be used to support IOT. They are usually segmented with vlans

It'll work but you'll end up with double nat though. Actually triple nat since tmobile home internet itself is cgnat.
I've been fine with this. No issues. Yes it is triple NAT lol.

I mean you can't port forward or do anything fancy on cellular Internet anyway

I thought I bricked mine but after switching it off and on a handful of times it took me back to stock firmware. Hope it works for you and you end up with another mesh node instead of a replacement.

I had the same issue, but the reset button on the button saved the day. If not,
you still might have have the stock firmware on the other partition. There's some info out there where you make it fail booting 3 or 5 times, it will automatically boot to the other, stock partition. Otherwise you have to get a USB to serial cable and restore that way. Google the key words and you'll find the details.
