Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

So I finally got DD-WRT working on this after some struggles, but had no idea how complicated the actual interface would be and how many different options there are. I just needed non-stock to run my media server thing via USB. Is open-WRT any easier to work with and is it even doable to go to that once DD-Wrt is up and running?

Both openwrt and dd-wrt are too complicated for simple functions. I tried to love them but I couldn't convince me. Fresh tomato is the best.

As adapters? Or that's the actual plug on the end of the cord?
The power adapter has detachable plugs. It's quite nice actually

The light didn't even flash when I hit apply tho. It just stayed solid light blue/cyan. I tried unplugging the ether Ethernet from it and the light turned red. I can try again.

Does linksys have an IOT network too? I'm this close to bridging my Verizon router instead and have the parent linksys as the router instead but my Verizon got the main, guest, and a iot network and I don't want to set up all the devices again.
You could try resetting the child node and starting over. Just hold down the reset button and there will be a series of around 4 slow red flashes followed by one quick flash.

I have been using it on T-Mobile home internet. Connect the T-Mobile Ethernet port to the Linksys Internet port. I turned off the 5ghz SSID on the T-Mobile router using the T Life app on my phone. Could not turn off the 2.4ghz band so I changed the SSID to end with "T" so my devices would know not to connect to it. Running one Parent and two wireless nodes in stock FW mesh. You get a double NAT and CGNAT from T-Mobile so port forwarding and running a VPN server is not working. The problem with cellular home internet is you need to put your receiver/router at a corner or side window of your house to receive the best cell signal. The other side of your house has a hard time getting a good WiFi signal. By using Ethernet wired to a router in the center of your house or 2 Linksys in wireless mesh gives you much better WiFi throughout your place.
T-Mobile does not provide an IP to you, why do you want to port forward?

I should point out that the included power adapter (12V 3.0A 36W) would cost $10-15 to buy separately, and it's UL Listed too.

1) The person you are replying to is talking about just using these as APs behind some other router so they don't have any direct external access. If someone is exploiting issues on these routers in that situation they are already inside your network and you are already in a world of hurt.

2) AFAIK there aren't any known security vulnerabilities currently so while lack of future updates is less than ideal it doesn't appear to be a problem currently. I don't think that the same is true for what ever people might be replacing. It might have multiple known issues that haven't been and never will be addressed so upgrading may be a net positive.

3) I expect that the majority of end uses will never manually update their router firmware so unless it's automatic or being managed by the ISP it's probably not being done. I mean how many default networks can you see from your desk with names like Linksys123 or Xfinity etc. Do you really think these people who don't know how to or can't be bothered to change their network name are doing firmware updates?

So yeah. It's not ideal that these likely won't ever get any updates for security or otherwise but they are still probably better off than they were on their previous router and for those who actually will keep things updated DD-WRT and OpenWRT are already options and should become better options in the future. Maybe that will change in the future if there's some particularly bad security hole found but until then these really aren't a bad option.

Been shopping for a router, in for 2 @ $15 each with two accounts. For $30 its worth it to see if they perform better than the Spectrum wave 2 router (RAC2V1K) I currently have. The Roku sticks I have keep dropping/disconnecting - I thought it was the Roku devices themselves so I swapped one of them to a Roku Ultra as a test and it still disconnects resulting in needing to restart the router.

Thanks OP

Do you know how to mangle TTL on DDWRT? I have done it on this unit with OpenWRT but I do prefer the DD-WRT interface.

I got two of these from the previous woot deal and finally set them up as my main router with wireless mesh. Coverage and reliability so far have been great. My previous setup was using TM Asus AC1900s with Merlin. I'm getting full speed wired and 350- 400 wireless in all areas of the house (400 mb isp plan) using stock firmware. Plan on flashing with OpenWRT when it becomes more stable or mature. Would recommend for so cheap ($15 - $50 depending on how many you need)
