Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

I had separate bands and SSIDs but once I enabled mesh and added a child, it prompted me to combine them all into one.
It didn't do that for me. I setup my main with different SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5 bands, and when I added child nodes to go mesh it did not change that.

I noticed the picture on Woot shows a different power supply than what came with all 3 of mine. It also doesn't show the yellow line mark on the third LAN port like mine all have. None of that likely matters though...just some observations.

For those worried they missed it, just be patient as more will likely show up on Amazon (at least that's been the pattern here recently).

Thanks, I actually had an old Linksys and one of T-Mobile WiFi routers which I flashed to DDWRT so familiar with the interface. I simply didn't know if they might have added functionality or improved the interface. As to Eero, I am using their free option and it's more then plentiful for me. They even added ad blocking support built-in to the units although I prefer the PiHole setup. appreciate the insight those.
If you're happy with your Eeero performance and the free option's parental settings - I'd stick with that. I own 3 Eero 6+, and in my Linksys tests with 3, soon to be 4 of these devices, they're on average about 20-30% slower. I did several 30-sample speedtests comparing with the Eeros, in several possible configs, channels, with the devices in exact same locations, The Linksys were also less consistent, meaning the range of results was wider, with some of the test instances as good as Eeros, but many - quite a bit lower, dragging the averages down. I attribute that to the fact that there's no dedicated backhaul radio or frequency. The range and speed of the two radios in the 5ghz spectrum is very different, with the upper radio despite being 4x4 mimo struggling a lot to perform consistently at comparable speeds of the lower band 5ghz radio. This is consistent even if I kill all the interfering devices at my house and try auto channel setting on the router, auto app channel scan and analysis, and even when I use my WifiMan scan results to manually set the channels.
Don't get me wrong, the Linksys still works well, delivering 250-350Mb, but my Eero is consistently between 350-450Mb. My Tmo downlink is about 450-500.
The reason I bought these Linksys devices is to tinker and to have separate dedicated IOT, movie streaming, and office networks. Linksys should be fast enough for Netflix and such on my 4 main Tvs and projectors, my old Wifi5 eeros will stay on IOT duty, and my Eero6+'s are now becoming my dedicated home office network. Now I just have to ficure out whether I should have my 3d printers on the office side of IOT side...

Have a question for experts. I currently have 3 of these to provide whole house and yard coverage as an AP and 2 child nodes. So there should be very good coverage for 5Ghz, which is less transmissive than 2.4Ghz. Given that, my question is: what will happen if I dedicate the 2.4Ghz bands (and use a different SSID name) for ioT (cameras, lights, electrical switches, electricity and water monitors, thermostats, doorbells, alexa, google) and dedicate the 5Ghz bands for the other stuff (laptops), movie and music streaming, printing. a) Will it reduce or increase performance of the non-iot stuff? b) will it enhance security?

I dont see how it will enhance security unless I put other firmware (openwrt, ddwrt) that can handle a VLAN. But then I need to replace all my dumb switches to managed switches. The other option is if I create a guest network and put all my ioT stuff on it. But I dont know how the stock firmware handles access on the guest LAN running in bridge mode. The other possibility is that since these are so cheap, I get an additional 1-2 units, and simply make an iOT AP and let my router/firewall deal with the access controls. This latter seems easiest, dont need a VLAN since it is a physical LAN, dont need managed switches, and just need one 10/100Mbps ethernet cable to the AP. Comments?
You answered your own question! That's how I run these, just not for the IOT (Using Eero Pros for that since they play nice with Echo devices) - but for streaming devices, including as wireless to ethernet bridges for my Plex machine and Roku ultras. Then I have an Eero 6+ mesh for home office use.

Look it up on UPS with "Track by Reference Number" and use your woot order number as the "shipment reference".

It will probably say ups is awaiting item, and mine stayed like that for 4-5 days last time.

I was in this exact same situation. I have a large house and was using rbr50 and 4 rbs50 satellites. My IP speed recently increased to 600. Now have 6 of these in mesh and getting full speed everywhere. I've noticed that my Wi-Fi calling is much more stable now.
This is very interesting observation. I had turned off my wifi calling because my calls kept getting dropped. I will try using this and see if wifi calling has improved. Thanks for the comment.

So your house will have 3 different mesh systems running at the same time? Seems like a recipe for channel congestion issues to me (maybe unless your neighbors are far enough away that their networks aren't also coming into play). Maybe you are seeing less performance with the Linksys because it doesn't deal with interference as well -- you already have so much going on just inside your home! BTW, my devices see faster speeds when connected to the upper 5GHz band -- but I am using wired backhaul.

Awesome! What speeds were you getting with your Orbi RBR50?

I've set up VLANs on DD-WRT before to give my iot devices their own VLAN. I did not realize it is different on this router with Qualcomm CPU. There is no switch config page to assign VLANS to the ports on DD-WRT! It sounds like others are interested in setting the router up this way. Anyone out there who has had success setting up VLANs on this router?

Look into setting up VLANs on one of those of those networks. There is no need to have multiple networks creating all that interference.

You'll likely get another chance to buy once they finish the next batch. It's been going in and out of stock since May or June.

Sohen employees, the refurbishing company Linksys used to get rid of these, needs to take each router out of the original packaging, sand off the "secured by Fortinet" logo under the Linksys logo, flash the router with the consumer firmware, put new stickers on the bottom of the router, and then place it in the generic box.

I was getting full speed when I had 400 but when I went to 600 I was only getting around 450.

This is what I posted on the last thread if anyone is willing to stay on stock but I love openwrt and have been using it for two weeks or so and absolutely love it 😃

Instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.
I may be doing something wrong. I clicked on Add Wires Nodes and it turns gray and the Done Adding Child Nodes activates. On bottom, I press Add Wireless Child Nodes, but both parent and child have red lights on it (flashing for parent, sold for child). What am I missing?
