Killer strat and killer deal for a new one, have the 62 Strat and 60 p bass and the AmVin II is killer. Have a CS Time Machine 58 Strat or I'd be all over this — thanks OP!

I think only the blonde avii 1957 strat is ash, the other colors are alder. Also even though the description says it's nitro, the general consensus are that it's poly with a nitro top coat. Shame you can't get a nitro finished guitar from fender anymore outside of the custom shop.

Not a bad deal. Nothing to go crazy about though. It's a nice guitar, but I would only pick it up at this price. I bought one retail and I always still pickup my AM Pro II first.

I wouldn't say it's better. It's different. I feel the avii is more particular. Chances are, if you don't know that you like the niche of the avii, you will probably like the pro ii better.

no pro 2 is better, playability wise. These guitars are for guys who like vintage guitar specs but don't want to shell out money for a custom shop. Also, some like a beat up (relic) guitar look and you need nitro finish for that. Pro 2 will never achieve that beat up look due to its poly finish.

If this has the same finish over the maple neck as the pro ii make sure to inspect it throughly. I bought a pro ii used but never played. They spray the lacquer on after putting in the frets (thanks fender) and as a result as it wears off the frets it can chip. I only have one small tiny chip and hopefully it stays that way but pretty annoying practice for 2k MSRP guitars.

Really like the current gens otherwise but if I get a tele or jazzmaster one I'm going to get rosewood because of this.

I called and asked them to give me the same price for the Ash Blonde one — it took like 30 minutes via live chat, but I just finished checking out with my new Ash Blonde AVII for $1655

What is so special for year 1957? Some big events in Guitar history?

Any other years? Are sounds very different among them?

Jameson Guitars on Amazon. Get the full size Thinline Acoustic Electric for $90. I highly recommend it as a starter. Body isn't as thick as a typical acoustic making it easier for beginners.
