Why was it disabled? Was it not accurate?
Lawsuit. Looks like Apple does not want to pay the royalty fees. For an expensive device they are failing to listen to their customers.

I don't think it will ever come back. My ultra 2 has the App but it is disabled. It has the hardware but disabled by Apple because of the Lawsuit. Maybe there might be a software hack to get it working.

Series 9 Model MR9C3LL/A still has blood oxygen sensor. Sleep tracking still reports blood oxygen on mine.
This is correct. Any series 9 with LL/A at the end still have blood oxygen sensor.

If someone really wants this, the non-US region version of the watch (including series 10) will still have the capability, but of course they will have to consider whether the capability is worth it to them. As an anecdote, I have it on my series 8 and think it's a little gimmicky.

Fun fact: The launch compared the size of the series 10 to the series 6. If compared to the series 9, the only size change is bigger bezels.

So if you'll never use the sensor.. is it still a downgrade?
Definitely not a downgrade, especially if you don't use that feature. Thinner, lighter, bigger display on the 10.

When you talk about the coating and scratching -- is that for the series 9, or the series 10, or on both?
Only an issue with the jet black series 10.

They made the bezels bigger and the screen is the same size too. In the launch, they compared the size to the series 6 to hide it, but the accurate comparison shows the same size screen and bezels like 2x the size
Wrong! I have both S9 and S10 and the S10 screen is noticeably 9% larger. Anyone can google this actual fact. S10 is also a full 1mm (10%) thinner.

Series 10 is a downgrade from series 9 which has the blood O2 sensor. You can find series 9 easily $100 off.
Note when there is scratch, it will expose the aluminum which will be silver in color. The coating of this watch will easily come off leaving a visible light mark.
I think most people would take the newer series 10 design and newer chip over a single blood oxygen sensor. But you do have a valid point

dont know if it will drop to $330 in a month though. I can see a $379 price soon, maybe for black Friday which is when I plan to get it.

So why does my series 9 say I can't use the blood o2 function?

Jet black makes this look more premium (to me) as I'm used to the stainless models. I have an ultra and this series 10 and screen size is about the same, but it IS bigger than the series 7-9, but only 9% which at this screen size isn't super noticeable. The off axis viewing is improved, though. It's also more comfy to wear than any Apple Watch I've had previously. I purchased through Apple to get the band I wanted. This black band ain't it.

It's a physical sensor though, one of a handful on the watch. It's kind of a big loss.
