As a Ring subscriber, I usually get an additional discount when checking out at Amazon, even for sale items. Not seeing it this time.
Prime Day is around the corner. Maybe wait and see if the 10% would apply then (this same deal will likely repeat, if not even better)

Is there local storage or is cloud (with subscription) the only option to store footage?
They have an app, and a web portal to view your footage. If you get an alert you can go live, or review the footage.

Every video has a save option and you can download to PC or Device. I have a folder in Onedrive I save them in. The really important ones, like the chronic trespasser I put on Youtube and marked private so I could send to the police. I was also to edit a dozen videos on my Iphone down to the "action" save and store. I was able to prove harassment, get a trespassing ticket.

It is pretty easy to use. I was able to go back a few months and find instances I was not aware of. It was really easy to do via the website.

I also have their home alarm - it is wonderful. It helped when someone tried to break in, I was able to talk to the police through my cameras. The Ring agent who called to alert me the police were on the way was able to tell me what camera was triggered, what door was opened... It was impressive.

Since I have the alarm, I have the ability for unlimited cameras. I have 5. All included in the $200 annual fee for alarm monitoring. My folks have a professional alarm and pay another $150 a year with no cameras.

When I had a security light/cam go out, the support was terrific, I got a replacement in 3 days. I was out of warranty, but they covered it anyway. I have been very happy with this company. I probably should relocate to a nicer neighborhood, but till then they have my back.

People only think of 1 use case and scream about privacy issues. I use indoor ring cameras placed around the house as 24/7 indoor security when I go on vacation.

Same situation as you. If you tell your homeowners insurance you have monitored security you get a discount that nearly covers the cost of the Ring Service…

I disabled the "assistant" on my phone, yet somehow Google still feeds me ads eerily similar to things I discuss with people, without searching for it. That's enough of a red flag not to touch anything even remotely similar to this.

You are telling the truth. Why did this get downvoted? No local storage unless you pay the highest tier of subscription plus an extra device.

no homeowner ins discount on any "monitored security" cameras installed. never heard of it. their "monitored" requirement for discount is the live dispatch operators

You can set the mode to turn off camera in Disarm Mode. Cam On in Home and Away modes.

No conspiracy theorist here, but I am not a gambler in the least, and I happened to be speaking the other day with a coworker who had just won $10k in some online slot game. Later on that day I start seeing online slot ads in my FB video feed, that continued for a few days.

Can you stream an RTSP stream right out of this or are you dependent on the app/cloud?
