quality set but history shows this normally goes for $8.xx so really only saving a dollar or so it seems.

Yep. CCC says lifetime average price of $8.94 and it's only been over $10 a handful of times in the last year.

SAE hex wrenches are in fraction of inches as opposed to mm in metric sets.

Everyone should have a set of each kind.

I feel like I use metric 99% of the time. I've only come across SAE when working on pretty old American cars, appliances, and some gun and gun accessory brands that think its cool not to use metric.

No matter how rare, when you do come across it, you will be glad you have an SAE set instead of trying to use a metric set on SAE.

I don't understand why any of these are not ball end. Must be more expensive to manufacture than I would expect.

Ball end cannot be torqued as high as straight like these so some people prefer not to have it. For a general use set though everyone should have a ball end set

these are small allens... not doing any torquing with keys this size. besides, any torquing is done with the short end, not the long end... long ends should always have balls on them, in my opinion, accept in the case of long/large allens where large amounts of torque are intended.

on the deal... just shy of 1$/allen for quite small keys is a hard swallow.
