Not a great deal today, as its more than likely slower in most games than a 4070 PC with a current intel CPU.

3090 is an energy hog compared to the 40xx series.

For once, the older CPU is actually a plus. I don't think you have to worry about the crashing fiasco with 12-gen Intel processors.

Decent option if you're looking for a new PC. It seems that 4070 Super rigs with similar configurations will be about this price point (1499-1599). The 4070 Super is actually neck and neck with the 3090, edging it out slightly. If you play games with FG, the 4070 Super is definitely the way to go. If you care for more VRAM for some reason, the 3090 is an option at this price point. Good to see more configurations with similar performance at this price point though. Get this if you need it now and really love the looks, otherwise wait. I'm guessing this price for these configurations are going to be the new norm as we get closer to BF.

At least it has DDR5. So something is modern.

I dunno. It's pretty comparable to a 4070 Super in terms of speed and performance: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...154vs4081.

The 3090 has substantially more VRAM, but the 4070-S has more advanced DLSS and Frame Gen, which will become more and more important over the years. So pros and cons to each. The 4070-S is slightly faster and more future-proof, but the 3090 is better if you play games that use ton of VRAM. But it's pretty much a wash in real world performance for most folks right now. So you really should be comparing this with 4070-S deals, and I've seen cheaper ones. Maybe not ones with I9 processors, and as I said above, this older gen processor isn't affected by the crashing that plagues the 13th and 14th gen. So it might be a good buy if you don't want to wait, but I wouldn't call it freakin' cheap.

imho it's a resoundingly *fine* machine, you can get similar performance with newer-ish hardware for a very similar money, eg: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Zd8zbL
And 3090 is a power hog compared to 40-series, so give or take

If you need a PC for AI (running LLM locally, AI work, stable diffusion etc) then the amount of vram is the most important factor, and a 3090 is far better than a 4070 and pretty close to a 4090.

Are we supposed to be excited for this "deal" where Skytech appears to be trying to clear out their old stock? It's not a terrible price, but it's fair market value for its performance, at best, and is mostly old components.

If these are new components with warranty it's a great deal for AI/ML. With 4090s EOL, 3090s are popping back up at microcenter (refurbs), still a good deal for AI or mixed use if the vram is valuable.

Do a clean pop_os install and have local LLMs working in minutes (ollama + openwebui are 5 line installs). Plenty of decent quantized models can run on 24gb to evaluate, and tools like flowise and anythingllm are easy to set up. 3090 can run at low wattage (I've done 350, 320, 300,
280) for AI.

Looking closer, you could easily run a 2nd 3090 (FE, FTW3) with a better psu and some 60mm exhaust fans. Run each at 280w and not a bad entry point for 48gb vram. I've set up multiple dual 3090 boxes, no nvlink with the proprietary 3090 but the dual slot form factor is advantageous at low wattage dual gpu setup for local llm

For reference, I've been running this setup for 5+ months 24/7 in a very similar case with larger cards (ftw3) and a 1300w evga g2 psu with a 13600t (can run 12900k at low PL for identical performance). AIO for cpu helps thermals on the top 3090 temps as back gets very hot with vram chips, so the top exhaust plus some rear exhaust fans should work fine with 2x gpus at low PL. Just take out a card and swap back in the old psu for warranty claims if anything else fails.
