There is an enclosure only option that isn't a hub/dock. They probably bought that one.

I have the cheaper hub. It gets very warm but I haven't had any issues. It's a bit sparse on ports and features but it's one of the cheapest ones you can get.

It doesn't work with a Nintendo Switch, if you were considering it for that.
