This is essentially a drill, and a highly powered screwdriver.

You would want an "Impact Wrench" for doing things with lug nuts, and other socket-based tasks.

Is this good for everyday basic use? Like installing desks, chairs, etc
probably overpowered for that. but if you are careful and know how to use the clutch on it, yes you could do this in theory.

most people don't seem to really learn how to use the clutch

Yes. Learn how to use the proper power settings and it will do just fine

Anyone know how often has this price range has come up in the past? Trying to decide if this is worth an early buy for Christmas, or if this (or a similar) deal will likely come around again before then.

Slickdeal or not is it worth getting the FUEL version over this?
I don't think I've ever seen the fuel version for under $100 even bare. Id say if you are looking for a go-to drill for driving tasks in need of a clutch and/or drilling tasks under 1.5 in diameter this will work great. I have the larger drill and only ever use it when running large hole saw bits where you need the aux handle. Everything else I use this. As for the 12v fuel vs this one, I still reach for this one first. It drills much faster and I like the mechanical clutch over the electrical one. That being said, I do have the 12v fuel assembly driver for small screws and fine drilling which is by far a better tool for the small tasks than either this or the 12v fuel drill (and way better than the 18v fuel).

I'm not sure what goes into installing chairs (possibly assembling them together) but installing desks sounds like you'd need basic drilling and a majority fastener driving. I'd opt for an impact driver which you can drill with also, and I would suggest the Milwaukee M12 series for that kind of work (the Surge if you can swing it). I see an electric screwdriver type was suggested, but the impact driver will do just as good plus have a lot of additional uses.

I'd highly recommend against a drill like this if you're wanting to use it to drive in fasteners.
