First of all, a lot of movies are not free. You need to be subscribed to whatever platform they are on. And they can disappear or move on a whim. Second, even if you purchase digital, they can vanish. Redbox anyone? If there is a movie or show I really like,I buy physical. It is mine and stays that way. I agree about DVD. Only buy Blu-ray of 4K. If you want to chance online, good. I stream lots of stuff myself. But things I don't want to vanish, I buy disks.

Same with Space Jam 2-movie collection and Spongebob Squarepants 2-movie collection. Some good deals if you're into physical media.

I like blu-ray, but can't stand to buy DVDs any more. I suppose if you want to play these in your minivan, the 480p resolution is not bad.

I watched the DVD recently and it made me feel kind of gross. Maybe if you have really good upscaling 😆. But a Blu-ray, and especially a 4K disc look so much better.

People buy DVDs for behind the car seat DVD player/screens for kids. They look fine on an 8 inch screen.

I don't think most people realize how bad the picture quality is on a DVD. All units are in megapixels. DVD 0.35, blu-ray 2.1, 4K 8.3, 8K 33.2. So in other words, DVDs are 1/100th the resolution of the current top TVs. Color depth would also be a similar story.

No amount of upscaling makes a DVD look good on a larger TV. I rented a few from my local library and it was really bad.

Why anyone spends even $1 buying movies is beyond me when everything is free.
