For a less snarky reply, it depends on the kid. This is an excellent laptop for the price. But it's not Alienware brand and so if your kid wants that brand, then it doesn't matter if it's better or not. For example, my kid would rather have an iPhone 12 instead of the new pixel 9 or new Samsung. So a better phone does matter, they just want the brand.

Pascal was the only nvidia series that was full powered of the same model numbers. I'd prefer that they try to do that again.

I had an MSI Stealth aluminum body that was as thin at possible with the GTX 1060 in it. It ran hot but I had the full desktop variant.

While a 1060 has pretty similar requirements to a 4060 in terms of power needs, the 4080s draw double that power on average around 240 watts and in some cases almost triple (4080 super OC), so you would need very large or very innovative (expensive) ways to cool a beefier card in a laptop chassis.

I bought an ASUS ROG Strix G16 a week ago for the same price with lower specs. The box has been sitting unopened because I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. Then I see this listing and it has twice the RAM and one step up on both the GPU and CPU and a 240Hz refresh rate to the Asus' 165Hz and a QHD screen to Asus' FHD. And because I had Dell credits I saved an additional $30. The only drawback seems to be the screen brightness. The Dell has 300 nits to the G16's 500 but everything has a compromise. I'll take the power over the brightness.

This laptop is amazing with the 4060.

This one even more so. The keyboard is a dream. The screen is great for the price.

It's just so chunky. I had to return it since traveling would be a bit heavy.

Is this comparable to an Alienware? My son wants an Alienware for gaming, how is this better or worse?

Is a Toyota better than a Lexus? How about an LC vs an RX?

That's basically what's being asked here

This will get the job done graphically.

The casing is plastic. It's solid plastic with metal lid.

Weight is chunky at 6.3lbs, the charger is another 3lbs lol
