These reels are horrible. Not worth $5 and the short stick isn't worth that much. If you have a real women that can fish, she will not appreciate this garbage.

I like the rod, but the reel v-wheel failed with little use. For the price I may try again, it may have been a fluke or I'm just hard on stuff 🤷 ♂️.

I've usually had decent luck with Shakespeare rods/reels. I get they're not top of the line— but for 2-3 fishing trips a year, they're more than good.

Got two of these from the last deal a few weeks ago. They seem to be a step up from the last shakespear reel/rod ultralight combo i got. Nothing fancy but I wouldn't label it terrible and you can easily catch a ton of fish with them. Like the vast majority of things your skill level is way more important than the tools using for the job.

The reel on this combo will fail well before the rod does. But at that point, you can pick up another reel in the $40 neighborhood that will get you back in the action. In my opinion, the rod alone is well worth the price in that they are very, very hard to break. You can really abuse them which is great for beginners or folks who don't fish frequently. If you fish every week or multiple times a month you'll probably want a lighter, more sensitive graphite rod, but those are much more delicate and will break if misused or mishandled.

Yeah, the reels are the worst part of this combo. I would just pick up a new reel for the rod instead of buying another combo. You should be able to find something decent in the $40 range that will last way longer than the reel that the combo comes with.
