Owned this for 4 years and finally upgraded to a dual boiler + Niche Zero. If you're in for long term, my 2 cents, get the Bambino + a better grinder (DF64/Niche etc), as you'll learn this built-in grinder sucks, brewing is awesome though.
I agree with the poor grinder. I used this machine with a baratza sette 270 and it was next level espresso.

In the end, BBE was taking up too much space on the countertop, so I replaced it with a gaggia classic pro and added PID.

2.5 years later, I'm still happy with GCP.
As a headsup, Breville now owns Baratza. The newer Breville Express Touch and Impress Touch use Baratza burrs (the old Breville one have a 5 point configuration, new Baratza burrs has 6). I really wish they upgraded this machine with Baratza burrs.

I have been using "Hamilton Beach Custom Grind Coffee Grinder, 14 Cups, Black, 80393F" for many years, pretty happy about it. Does not keep much space and you do not need to hold pressing the button. Adjustable settings.

That blade grinder will produce awful espresso. It cannot grind the coffee consistently; you'll have large and small particles, so there's no way to extract it correctly through an espresso portafilter. For drip coffee it works but not for espresso. No way.

A burr grinder like the DF64 or DF54 is what you want. Or a Sette 270 or 270wi, or a Niche.

I actually made the comparison between the Barista Express vs Express Impress. Its my understanding that the Barista Express Impress is more user friendly and is meant for someone who is starting out wanting to make cafe style espresso drinks.
Barista Express are for those who are more experience and but want more control over their espresso.
Honestly for me, I went with the Barista Express because there was a better deal on the Express.
Ohhhh WAY more "user friendly". I went back and forth, is the impress system worth the extra or not. OMG, the impress aspect is amazing - worth every extra dollar spent, hands down.

Have you guys check out TJ Maxx, Marshall, Home Goods & Home Sense? I believe they have 876 / Barista Express Impress ($519) and 878 / Barista Pro ($499) on sale since Summer.

If it has blades, it's not even technically a 'grinder'…it's a chopper. Bad for coffee beans no matter what you call it.

Just get a superautomatic unless you like playing pretend as a Starbucks employee. Messing with a portafilter just isn't worth it on these machines. My Gaggia produces perfect shots every time.

Sorry, that just isn't so. This machine willl definitely deliver better tasting espresso than a super-automatic, although you're right, it does take more effort. The Barista Express is highly regarded… although there is a newer model, Barista Pro, which is better because it switches between brewing and steaming termperatures far faster.

There's a YouTube channel called Hoon's Coffee, and he is a huge Breville enthusiast. He's got all kinds of other machines and grinders, and thinks the Barista Express and Barista Pro are the best for the money… though he usually likes using a different grinder, the built-in grinder will get you going.

Santa is putting a Breville under the tree this year, so hopping for a good BF sale (30%?) on a unit.

Where is the sweet spot in their line-up? I don't want to drop a grand, and though I had sold myself on ~$500, I could meet you in the middle if there is a standout unit that balances costs and palatable pulls. Smilie

I like the thought of just pushing a button on an automatic unit, but I am willing to put in the work to get a great espresso/cup of coffee, so now looking at a Breville.

Struggled with this for years. Older machine likely with the old temp settings. Never got around to hacking mine but once in every 10 shots would i get a palatable espresso.
Tried all the gizmos - wdt, bottomless, better tamp, fresh beans etc. I think the grinder is the weak link here and I just got frustrated and put mine away and collecting dust. A shame bc most have good success with it. If I ever get back into it ill get a bambino plus and a better grinder someday but im back to my nespresso(yuk) and aeropress.
So Nespresso(yuk) is better than this thing?

New to this world. This Breville ($550) or the recent Costco deal for the Phillips 3200 with lattego ($500)?
One does everything, the other you do everything. Which one is better is subjective.

How fast is the gcp with milk drinks? I currently have a calphalon that does just fine for single drinks but when I need to make another drink the machine needs to cool down for like 15 mins lol.

I love mine. I bought mine for $499 at a HomeGoods back in 2022 so I don't think that this is that great of a price.

Once you've found your perfect espresso bean (used Lavazza for the last two years but recently switched to a local roast) you are set. It takes a li'l fiddling w/ the settings to get it just right by +/-coffee amount and fine/coarse on grinder.

Mine too. Got a Brera from Whole Latte Love for $315 delivered.
Was a refurbished with a manufacture date of 8/23. Still had the blue plastic film on it. Works great. Push the button twice and I have a perfect double shot in 30 seconds.
