Edit: If you burn a Visible number for 24h with a failed transaction you can change it easily, so that's another advantage
You can use Google Voice to claim a phone number if you don't have one you want to transfer, pay GV $3 to unlock that phone number, and then use that number to transfer to Metro.
BUT the phone will be locked to Metro for one year so you won't be able to use it with Verizon or any other carrier until Metro automatically unlocks it after that first year.
You don't need to continue service past the first month. You can throw it in a drawer and it will still unlock after one year.
I think most people on here are buying these to use as a trade-in rather than actually use them, That's what I did.
