I would look at other reasons than the stick if you're having that issue. I've had the 4K and 4K max, and somewhat recently upgrade to the new 4K max. I've streamed 4K content on Kodi effortlessly, even files 80+ GB's. Either you need a debrid service, or your internet isn't capable of streaming 4K, but it's not the stick.

Picked up the 4k max to replace the garbage 1st gen 4k max that doesn't have enough memory onboard, this better be the new 16gb version so I can stop fighting my TV about updates even with just a bare essential number of apps installed. Did a trade in for my refurb echo show 1 that we never really used.

I'd like to get a good setup for IPTV / free netflix etc, is this something I should consider or what would someone recommend? There are so many choices / possibilities that I'm not sure where to start.

This is why I switched to an Apple TV after my third Fire Stick. The Amazon product is good for a year until updates and bloat slow it down to a crawl. After waiting 8 minutes for a streaming app to start on the 4K Max I was done. Apple TV is more expensive but is fast and fluid.

Cheapest it's been according to camel & SD deal history. Unlikely to be significantly cheaper, unless you get an account-specific promo for another $5 off at the same time when another sale happens.

Worth the upgrade for htpc use, passthrough of more lossless audio codecs, faster WiFi, more storage, etc. Not worth it if you're only internet streaming or don't have surround sound.

I've got two of the 4K max for $24.99 each on Black Friday last year and got 10% cashback for Amazon devices. I also got the new 16GB version for $20 when Amazon had the code for specific accounts. The deal wasn't on my account but I contacted customer service and they went ahead and gave it to me. If you don't need one now wait until black friday.

I wouldn't buy max 4k till amazon fixes the hardware acceleration issue video will just freeze, and audio will still play I have 2 max gen 1 and the gen 2 and both do it my older 4k doesn't have the issue only max does it on plex/Kodi

The new one doesn't pass multichannel audio like Atmos or even TrueHD 5.1. It's converted to stereo.
