Then, when you are ready to redeem your $47.98 rewards, you can add a filler again to qualify for whatever bonus item they will have for a $50 purchase at that time (Yes, this works. I've personally done it).

Great timing. I was sweating whether or not this Duracell deal to use for minimum spend for ink rewards would appear this week, just at the end of the month. Now I can get one pack today to qualify for September, and one later in the week to qualify for October.
In my cart all I see is 25% bonus rewards

P.S. I'd value that tote to be $10ish. $5 is a value of thin grocery totes sold at Trader Joe's and such. This one is much sturdier.
