Imagine how insecure you have to be to go out of your way to tell a stranger on the internet that their hobbies are stupid. It's always fascinating.

That being said, at this price I'm in. I have so much fun building LEGO and it keeps me out of the bar.

Amazon is so annoying. I ordered this a couple days ago at 159 with an expected ship date of 10/2. Obviously, they don't have them in stock, but expect to receive some. Instead of letting me modify the order at the new price, I have to cancel it and reorder with a new ship date 2 weeks later (10/15-10/27).

I'm unclear why someone would buy this? I have a real 2600 with about a hundred cartridges, I didn't think it was worth fifty bucks until I saw this

Place a new order without canceling the current one. Return the one that you get first using the second order number. I know it's annoying and time consuming but amazon doesn't care even if it costs them labor🤦🏻 ♂️

The same reason they would buy the Lego NES or Mega Xbox 360. Nostalgia is a money maker.

Legos have become big business. Adults like the nostalgic sets and investing in retired lego sets has become a thing. Once Lego stops printing they really do stop. Once in a while you'll see it re-release, but it's rare and usually different.

NES and Atari sets will go up in value over time for sure. I personally would prefer to put money into nvidia shares or VOO, but to each their own.

  1. Buy the new Atari 2600+ and you an use all your old cartridges with HDMI plug & play. As well as the all the new cartridges Atari is selling-
https://atari.com/collections/atari-2600-plus [atari.com] or the new 7800+ if you like that style better- https://atari.com/collections/7800

When the Lego set is more expensive than the console itself.

What's next: SNES console? PS6 prototype?

Power tools are super convenient. Wood working and metal fab tools have much higher prices of entry.

For this price though, LEGO would have a killer set if it actually played cartridges. Instead, you pay $150 for something that resembles something that played cartridges 40 years ago.
You can buy a used table saw in great condition for less than $150 all day long. A brand new jobsite table saw is ~$200 on sale. Same with a miter saw and a drill press and you're pretty much set. You do need some space for the tools. You can also do a lot with hand tools if you really put in the effort and you're clever. So like for 3-4 lego sets you could set yourself up for light woodworking efforts if you had the space.

If Lego and Atari could figure out a raspberry pi emulator for this, it would be really really really cool.
